As smart cell phones take over the free world, I thought it might be helpful if there was a thread where you could post applications that you have found to be beneficial and think might benefit others. Either from the Andriod marketplace or the iPhone AppStore

With hundreds of thousands of apps. to choose from it should make it easier for all of us.

It would be helpful to know the name of the app., which source it's from, whether it's free or costs $$ and why you think it/they are beneficial.

    Example:

SoundHound - Andriod marketplace, Free, helps you determine the name of a song and the artist who sings it.

iPhone source (sorry, not familiar enough to know it's real nam
    The AppStore.

I just got an iPhone 4, its pretty cool.

There is an app called "Around Me", it is free. You put in your location and then there is a list of places around you. Everything from the closest banks, coffee shops, gas stations, pharmacies, movie theaters...lots of stuff. All works on the Googlemaps GPS so it will tell you locations, directions, and travel distance. It is neat.

Thanks ItsASecret! I just downloaded that app. and look forward to using it especially when I travel.

    A couple of others:

Vlingo, Android marketplace, free, a voice recognition app that allows you to talk instead of type. I found it to be more accurate, then the ones that came on my phone.

Bubble, Android marketplace, free, turns your phone into a level. Great for hanging pictures on the wall, etc.

I love SoundHound, lol. I use it all the time.

I also use CardioTrainer daily, I love it!

Grocery IQ is an awesome app. I keep my grocery list in it, you can scan the barcodes of the items too with your camera instead of typing them in. If you are a coupon shopper, it will also pull coupons that you can use for the products you've entered.

I use Menstrual Calendar Premium to track my period, ovulation, sex, etc. Love it and it is spot on. When I had my iPhone, I used iPeriod which was a lot better, IMO, but this one is good too.

TipNSplit, Andriod marketplace, free, helps you break up a large dinner bill if you're all paying your own and helps with the correct tip amount too.

KeyRing, Android marketplace, free, enables you to store all of those annoying key ring frequent shopper cards (at least the ones with the bar codes on them) in your phone which can then be read by the various scanners.

    Forget another one...

SplashID Password Manager - Not free, but well worth the money if you have an overabundance of passwords and other information that you need to keep safe.

    All,
I found I really like iMapMyWALK+, MapMyFitness, Inc., free for the Android. It uses your GPS location to map the speed, route, etc. of your walks. I go on long walks all the time as a part of my fitness routine and I LOVE using this app. I will warn, though, that I have had some difficulties and suspect it might be draining my cell phone battery quickly since it uses GPS. I was doing a little research and I think others have this problem, too. I found this place that sells cell phone batteries and I think I will replace my battery and see if that helps. I love this app too much to uninstall it!

I love LogYourRun - Apple App Store - Free, also uses GPS but I just turn my location services off when I'm not using the app to save battery. It allows you to sync with your iPod so you can have all your tunes on the same screen as your app. Love it.

I also love Camera360 - Apple App Store - Free - has some cool editing features.

PinkPad - Apple App Store - Free - to track basal body temps, periods, etc. Very cool.
