If you look at death rates in the U.S. men die younger due to a variety of factors. The average age is just that- an average. So the higher death rates for young males who engage in risky behavior is factored in. Men also have higher desease rates for things like heart attacks ( women are catching up unfortunately). Men work a much higher percentage of "risky" jobs resulting in another factor of higher deaths. So when looking to the "average age" of deaths it is not surprising that men's "average" life expectancy is lower than womens. IMHO
