A month ago (or around that) we had to put my grandpa in a nursing home. He has suffered from alzheimers for years and years. He's now in a veterans home almost 2 hours away. It's been hard. He's had some very rough moments, but mentally and physically. The rate at which he began to decline within 2 weeks of being in the home was astonishing and heartbreaking beyond belief. From what I have heard since my last visit, things have started to improve a bit. They were giving him WAY too much medicine and have leveled that out a bit.
Anyway, why am I posting? This year is not the first year I've participated in the Walk to End Alzheimers. But this year, it really hits home for me. The only way to find treatments and hopefully cures for this disease is to research and test. The only way to do that is with perserverance, money, and time. I can't do a whole lot, but I can raise money and walk. I want to kick butt this year and raise as much money as possible in honor of one of the greatest men ever made....my Pa.
I know times are tough. Gas is high. Food is high. It's high for me too (single gal with a mortgage!!!), so I understand. Even a $5 donation would make a difference in the fight to end alzheimers.
