I'm beginning to think that over half of Americans spells the opposite of "win" "loose".

I feel like my eardrums are going to burst when I hear the word "irregardless"

It has been used to much that it is legitimized in language now, I think. But still - it's like some jumbled of mess between "regardless" and "irrespective."

    Ick.

Ever see the American Dad episode when Steve laughs at Stan for using the word "irregardless"?

Stan: You can't talk to me like that. Irregardless of what you think of me, I'm still your father.

Steve: "Irregardless"? That's not even a real word. You're affixing the negative prefix "ir" to "regardless", but as "regardless" is already negative, it's a logical absurdity.

Stan: I have half a mind to...

Steve: There he goes exaggerating again.

I talk just like Steve lol..."already a negative, its a logical absurdity"...I will have to use that on somebody one day cause it is exactly the type of thing I would say to someone who is annoying me with that type of subject.

Most of it comes from supposedly college graduates. It irks me so bad, I generally walk off letting them talk to themselves. My wife's language drives me nuts! Bachelors degree in Home Economics from Kirksville Mo- Truman University.

lol I can attest to College grad talk. We slack with our own lingo, but it disappears the second we have to get into actual academic mode (those of us who actually care that is). Outside of the classroom or workplace we are a big bunch of lazy bums haha.

I found a new word that has popped up at work with clients and their requests which makes me go arrggg....initiate is not inniciate. No C, no double N. It is initiate, broken down it sounds like this when pronounced: ih-nish-ee-ate. Not: inn-eye-see-ate because that is how "inniciate" is pronouced when you break it down...in-eye-see-ate. Wrong.
