    Default Coffee can cause hallucinations

I was just watching TV, where a study was conducted, and the people were selected, based on 1) suffering some form of stress and 2) loved a few cups of coffee per day. They were asked to drink 5 cups of coffee, then press the button to hear Bing Crosbys "White Christmas", and to comment.

Out of 92 people, that conducted this survey, nearly all, said "yes I can hear the song" and went along humming etc, however, there was no song played when they pressed the button.

They therefore claim that over "200 milligrams of cafine per day" can cause hallucinations..

Interesting off course the survey conducted on only 92 people shouldn't result in "may" but on the same accord it's interesting, as we know cafine, too much of it, isn't good for us.

Can't help but wonder what would happen if they conducted the same study with people who drank water. LOL. People are very open to suggestion under the right circumstances they will fill in the blanks very quickly.

Gosh well I guess I should be seeing little pink elephants all around my office.

I never heard of caffeine causing hallucinations, just things like restlessness and heightened anxiety. I used to drink way too much coffee while I was in college - I had to in order to stay awake to get assignments done, go to class, work, my internship, etc. I literally had very little time for sleep. Now I have it down to a cup a day, and I notice a difference. But I'm not sure if that's because of the decrease in caffeine consumption, or because I'm getting more sleep and don't have so much on my plate anymore.

    Oops..

Well, coffee is a stimulant so It wouldn't surprise me if it does cause these types of side effects.

Oh the imagination is an amazing thing... Children generally have an imaginary friend until (they say) around 3 or 4 and then pfttttt gone....

I agree Little Chuck, another study will claim never to drink it before going to bed because you won't sleep, anyone agree with that claim?

LOL - I've never been able to handle stimulants all that well. One of the reasons I don't drink coffee, heck, anymore I don't drink anything except water or Crystal Light. Summertime I do have decaf sun tea.

Caffeine make me jittery, antsy, etc., just overall not a good feeling. Then, I know people who drink coffee until 5 or 6pm. I'm like, man, I would be a nerve wracked mess if that was me.

Who needs coffee for hallucinations? Just talk about politics or religion and you will realize a lot of people are hallucinating. Are we going to blame that on them breathing air?

I am the same Lana. I will only drink caffeine free tea. Coffee would make it difficult to get to sleep for anyone I think. However, the effects would vary for different people and perhaps brands and types of coffee too.

When I read your thread post, CW. I think that the people in the study showed a relaxed state of mind. The song chosen was calm and of a festive nature. Like these people when I hear a song I like, I often hum it or carry it throughout the day without it playing and with or without coffee.
But given the choice, I will take coffee. As all that know me, know I Love the warm, delightfully aromatic,
    tasty carmel colored beverage...!

Ahh...I was wondering which would be "next" Alcohol-forbidden; Smoking- forbidden; foods with taste (suger, oil, cholesteral, additive etc) forbidden;now coffee is next on the list of "forbidden' indulgences. I will eat and drink as I. say again ...I... choose. The so-called "experts" and government regulators can (gestures inappropriately) BITE ME!
