I've pretty much been living for HLN lately so I can keep up with the Casey Anthony trial. This must be every law students dream case, not to mention every psychologists.

What do you all think? What REALLY happened to Caylee Anthony?

On February 18, 2009, documents released by the State Attorney's Office in Florida indicated that the same type of laundry bag, duct tape, and plastic bags discovered at the crime scene were found in the house where Casey and Caylee resided. Heart-shaped stickers were also recovered by investigators. According to an FBI laboratory email, a heart-shaped outline was originally seen on the duct tape that was recovered from the mouth area of Caylee's skull, but the laboratory was not able to capture the heart shape photographically and could no longer see it after the duct tape was dusted for fingerprint processing. The documents also indicate that Cindy Anthony stated to them that a Winnie the Pooh blanket was missing from Caylee's bed. This type of blanket was found at the crime scene. An entry from Casey Anthony's diary was also released

The following diary entry by Casey Anthony is dated "June 21" and reads:

I have no regrets, just a bit worried. I just want for everything to work out OK. I completely trust my own judgment and know that I made the right decision. I just hope that the end justifies the means. I just want to know what the future will hold for me. I guess I will soon see – This is the happiest that I have been in a very long time. I hope that my happiness will continue to grow– I've made new friends that I really like. I've surrounded myself with good people– I am finally happy. Let's just hope that it doesn't change

Transfer writing (imprints of writing) from other pages of the diary mentioned a person named Kenneth whom Casey had dated in 2003. A member of Casey Anthony's defense team, spokeswoman Marti MacKenzie, contends that this entry was written in 2003 prior to the time that Caylee was born. The defense contends that the opposite page has "'03" written in one of the corners as the date, and the handwriting on the two pages match. However, there was no authentication that this is a date, or when it was entered in the diary or by whom. The prosecution acknowledged that it did not know when the entry was made

The trial began on May 24, 2011, at the Orange County Courthouse, with Judge Belvin Perry presiding. In the opening statements, prosecutor Linda Drane Burdick described the story of the disappearance of Caylee Anthony day-by-day. The defense, led by Jose Baez, presented its claim that Caylee drowned accidentally in the family's pool on June 16, 2008, and was found by George Anthony, who then covered up Caylee's death. Baez also alleged that George Anthony had sexually abused Casey since she was 8 years old. Baez also claimed that Casey's brother Lee had made sexual advances toward Casey and was even given a paternity test to see if he was Caylee's father.

I've watched it some, it's a good thing I'm not on the jury. Even though I think she is guilty, there is a small doubt that would never go away. I would have to vote not guilty and hate myself.

The thing about being a juror is that it's okay to not be 100% sure.....what you are making a decision on is "I know, beyond a REASONABLE DOUBT that this person committed the crime she is being charged with". There are many cases that at the end of the day, no one TRULY know exactly what happened. But if the prosecution is able to convince you, beyond a reasonable doubt, then you should vote guilty. I will agree with you, being in that position is MUCH harder than it sounds. I will never forget the feeling that someones life literally rode in mine and my fellow jurors hands....no matter how horrible what he did was.

The thing about Casey is that she could've spoken up from the beginning and just told the truth and accepted the consequences. I believe that if her daughter accidentally drowned, she'd have broken down and come clean sooner than 2-3 years after. She's doing this now only to try to save herself. She did something awful to that baby in my opinion, and that is why she can't come clean.

Haha. It's an interesting case. And even more interesting from a totally "looking at the forrest instead of the trees" perspective is that we live in a country that gives Casey the right to sit back and watch all these people for all these years spend all their time and resources trying to figure out her lies, and she is not required to say ANYTHING. She is the only person that knows the whole truth behind all this, and she's not required to say a word. I find that very interesting.

It's interesting but not unique though. The unfortunate reality is that this type of murder all to often happens and only the local areas know about it. Good or bad, I think the media has had alot to do with how this case has been handled. If Nancy Grace didn't take this as her cause do you think that Orange County prosecutors would have brought in this multitude of expert witnesses, FBI crime labs, etc. for a case that they could easily have a couple more sitting on their desks just like this one?

Every year it seems the media chooses a crime like this. But, that is a good thing.

    This is a Heartbreaking story.
Casey will be convicted of the murder I'm sure. Based more on her actions and lack of reactions , that normal people would adhere to.

How many people, mothers, fathers, grand parents, would simply go out and party after finding out their loved one was " Missing " ? Much less wait 21 days to even mention that the loved one is missing ?

In Casey's situation, here she was Free to do whatever she wanted, drink, go clubbing, no child to be responsible for, no babysitter to find on a last minutes invitation to a bar or party.

When asked by her parents , where's Caylee, she answers with the nanny. If it wasn't for the Grandparents, wanting to see their Grand daughter, Caylee's " Disappearance" could have gone on much longer.

When I imagine that Casey and Caylee lived in another State and physical contact with the Parents/ Grand parents was very limited, I believe that Casey would have found a better place to bury Caylee and the body might never have been found at all.
Casey could have just frantically called 911 , reported her child missing and then called her parents, claiming the same.

There would have been none of this ( After 2 years ) accidentally drowned in pool and they all conspired to cover it up. There would be no duct tape, no chloroform, no garbage bag , no little heart stickers, no special blanket

On the possibility that Caylee accidentally drowned in the pool. What exactly is the reason, that whomever found her, did Not call 911 immediately ? Seriously, rather than cover it up and contract some wild story , a month or 2 later ?

Yes it's a possibility that any and all of the Anthony's might have been charged with Child Negligence or even involuntary manslaughter. That is a Far Cry from Murder and the Death Penalty.

The most damming part here is the Search for Chloroform on Casey's computer. Circumstantial ? I think Not.. What is the purpose of the Duct tape , if the child is already deceased ?

I would defiantly be denied from the Jury Pool on this one. And I may be wrong, but instincts tell me, Casey is Guilty of at least Murder, among other things.

I don't however believe in the death penalty for her.

She should just live her life out in prison, knowing that she cannot party anymore, knowing that she will never be free to have another child, to marry, to be part of the Regular Society.

That the day she ended her Daughters Life, was the Day she made a Choice to be Selfish. She could have easily , put her beautiful Daughter up for Adoption or even asked her parents to be the legal Parents.

    BG, totally agree,

The long and short of this trial wasn't so much to determine her degree of guilt, it was to save her from the death penalty.

I do seriously hope she spends the rest of her life behind bars.

Heartbreaking indeed. I think what makes this situation a bit "unique" is the extent of Casey's lies. If you sit down and listen to her in interrogations, she never cracks, she never raises or lowers her voice, she never backtracks, and her lies continue to develop, getting more and more complex.

Casey Anthony denies that she murdered her daughter or had any part of the death of her daughter. Now accusing her father of molestation 2-3 years AFTER this whole thing started. It was the defenses "smoking gun" which in my opinion has turned out to be a bb gun with no bb's. I thought it was interesting that Dr G, the medical examiner stated that in a study they conducted, 100% of accidental drownings were reported, yet the defense is saying this one wasn't.........all because Casey was supposedly molested.

After being on a capital murder trial myself as a juror, I find the death penalty in most states to be a joke. We have guys that are still on death row from the 1980's. But I will say, I wouldn't mind to see this chick on death row if nothing else than for the label.
