The headline said it all. Google [The War Against Girls] and look at the Wall Street Journal article about the book: "Unnatural Selection" by Mara Hvistendahl. Comments?

This is disturbing and the direction it takes societies towards more violence and militarism is very concerning. It is not anything truly new, female infanticide has been around for a long, long time. The early American colonists practiced "kiting", leaving a newborn out on a hillside for several days, if the kites (a type of bird) killed them it was god's will that they not live. This rarely done with male babies. The muslim's scriptures talk about the practice of killing female babies. Women and consequently girls and female infants have been devalued, under educated, bought and sold in marriage or servitude for a very long time.

Now science is being used to simplify the process by terminating pregnancy with a female fetus instead of waiting to kill them after birth. Actually the stats are there on this practice as well, in many cultures or nations the childhood female death rate is much higher than the male rate, girls receive poorer nutrition, less medical care, less care, less education.

If these cultures existed in a vacuum they would either destroy themselves in a few generations or correct the situation out of necessity but they don't and the world will have to deal with at least some of the fall out from the increased aggression and violence.

I too was disturbed by this article. It is sad that a culture would value females so low as to destoy themselves (the whole culture) before they acknowledge the true value of girls and women. The acticle pointed out that nature mantains the proper ratio of males to females if left alone; why are we humans so shortsighted to think that we can literally wipe out half of the entities required to create life with no consequences?

Yes, I don't know the article, but I do know that nature keeps the balance of sexes for several reasons. Firstly so that pro-creation can take place as much as possible, secondly so that the testosterone fuelled males are kept in check by a good presence of caring and passive females. We need males and females in society in equal amounts, and with equal rights. This must be obvious to all but the incredibly stupid?

And yet the largest countries on the face of the Earth, population wise, have seriously imbalanced populations. This may be a worse problem than nuclear weapons.

You would think that in a generation this would lead them to place more value on women as scarer and more valued but I bet it doesn't.

I still get goose bumps seeing that, that's why I've posted it everywhere I think women and men of this Forum will agree with it...
