Default To tatt or not to tatt???

My fiance wants me to get a small tattoo in an intimate spot, maybe my butt or inner lower hip. Either his name or a sexy msg on my butt that only he sees during sex lol. I'm neautral about it. Not crazy about the idea but I want to make him happy. I have no tattoos now. Does anyone think this is a mistake? This is the man I want to spend the rest of my life with but a tatt is so permenant.

Never get someone's name tattooed on you. You have to be realistic and remember that even if you want to spend the rest of your life with him, there is always a possibility of the relationship not lasting. Then you don't want to deal with a brakeup and have to worry about how you're going to get his name off your skin.

Ink free is the way to be - (for me especially) - IMO.

What IF it doesn't work out? Now, a month from now, 5 years from now or later? Then you have his name permanently attached to your body. What is your next lover going to say/think? Even if it's "something sexy" ? What's sexy now may not be so sexy 10 years from now.

I don't judge people that have tattoos. I don't judge people that want to get tattoos. That is not my role. It's your body.

I do believe that there are going to be thousands, if not millions, of people, who, twenty years from now are going to regret having that blue and green "smudge" on their body that use to be a rose with thier name below it...

How many times will you change your fashion style throughout your life? Hair color? Hair style? Home decor? Car you drive? Interest in music?
Yet you are sure, at this moment in time in your life that ____ is THE man or ____ will always and forever be sexy. Really?

    Think about it.

Don't ever get a tattoo if you are not 110% positive that it is something you want to do, and you're only doing it FOR YOU. Tattoos are a form of self expression, no one should tell a person what to permanently imbed in their skin. If you're not a "tattoo person" then why get a tattoo?

    A cautionary story for you...

My neice is very much a romantic, she loves hard. She got married young and had her husband's name tattooed on an intimate area as a momento to their undying love. Fast forward two years... they had a messy divorce and she's stuck with the constant reminder of him. She got it covered up, but the flower she covered it with looks ridiculous, and she will forever know what is under that flower and why she has that tat in the first place.

A few years later, she meets another man, the absolute love of her life and they get engaged. She gets an M&M tattoo as a momento of their undying love (MM is his initials). Fast forward another year or so, a few months before the wedding, he broke off the engagement and left her.

Now she's got two tattoos from two different men she thought would be the love of her life... every time she gets out of the shower and looks in the mirror, she gets to see these reminders.

Tattoos are for YOU. They are for something that is important to YOU as a part of who YOU and who YOU will always be, regardless of who you are walking the earth with. I've got a fiance as well, we've been together for nearly a decade, and I love him more than anything, and I intend to stay married to him for the rest of our days, have a family, build a life together, grow old together. But rest assured, I would never, EVER tattoo his name or something associated with him on my body. We may be one soul, but my body is MY temple, the one thing that is mine and mine alone. And if I choose to get a tattoo (which I have thought about) it will be as a reminder of something that gives me meaning, that makes me who I am.

I'm not against tattoos in any way. I love art and some of them are beautiful. I will not likely ever have a tattoo, simply because my likes change over the years and what I like and find "cool" now, I most likely won't in 10 years. A tattoo is a lifelong commitment unless you have lots of money to get it removed (and even then it's not totally gone).

I will say, in full agreement with the others, never, neVER, nEVER, NEVER tattoo a lovers name on your body. Tell him if he wants to tattoo your name on his disco stick then to go for it.

In regards to the naughty "message" he wants as an alternative to his name as a tattoo on your body..... is he TRULY the only one that's going to see you naked? What about your gynecologist? He/she will see the naughty message. If you two ever have children then they will no doubt see every part of you naked (it happens....)........I can see it now "What's that say Mommy??". :\ Besides, how long do you think it will take your fella to get bored with the "message" tattoo? It sounds exciting to him now, but I promise you, 2-3 years from now he'll be far less excited about it and you'll have it forever.

Aside from the issue of permanency, change of tastes throughout the years, change of body appearance (therefore change of tattoo appearance).......alot of people who want their partner to tattoo their name on their body is an "ownership" issue. Picture it like a male dog hiking his leg on you to mark his territory, that way if any other dog comes around that dog KNOWS he's been there, he's OWNS you. But in reality, no man ever owns you and they don't need to think they do. It is YOUR body, it is YOUR temple, and it is your choice.

Consider this decision to be a very serious one, not to be taken lightly.

I agree never get a tatty with your spouses name, i wanted hubbys initial tattooed on my ring finger as at work i cant wear my wedding ring and hubby said NO your not getting anything with my name on it, i kno we have been together 7 yrs but what if something was to happen...hes got a really good point, i just got my first tatty last summer and going for another one in a couple weeks but they both have meaning, the tatty i got last summer is a turtle..it represents my life, turtles are slow moving, hard for them to climb obstacles, hard outershell soft innershell, my life has been nothing but obstacles, slow moving, i have a tough outer shell and im a softie as well, but it has meaning to me and my life, my tatty im getting in a couple weeks is my sons name and his zodiac sign which a name of your child is alot different than a spouses name, cuz your child with with you for the rest of your life no matter what. My tatty i have in mind for probably next summer is a pink carnation with my poppy's name and DOB/DOD on it as he was my everything and carnations were his fave flower as well they are my fave flower too...if your going to ink your body make sure it has meaning, hubby has quite a few tattys on his arm and none of them have meaning and he said they are just cool, yes they are cool looking but none have a meaning. His views and my views on tattys are different!

What are his reasons behind it? So it looks like you're branded? Because your word that you love him isn't enough, he needs to see it permanently?

I agree with not getting someone's name for LOTS of reasons.

How old are you? I ask because if you are young, it is very likely your tastes in designs will change over time. Think about the tatoo you would have gotten when you were 1/2 your current age .

I was going to get a zen enso symbol tattooed on my upper arm. To me it would be a religious symbol. My husband wouldn't let me, he don't like tattoos that show. He said it would be ok to get it on my butt, to me that would be disrespectful to get it anywhere below the waist.

Zen is more of an attitude than a belief.

Chaya, your husband shouldn't let, or not let you do anything - the choice should be yours.
