I belong to the Soto Zen school of Buddhism. Meditation (sazen) is the most impotent part of our religion. When I meditate it is not for relaxation but rather to discover the Buddha nature within myself. That is not to say that it does not relax me. After a session I am at peace with the world and all my troubles have been forgotten, at least for a while.

To try to teach this to my husband would be beyond my ability. In fact, I don't quite understand it myself even after those years of training.

Zen is more of an attitude than a belief.

I for sure can not myself begin to understand it, and I am Australian I do think it's a good thing it's something I've always wanted to do....for me as a way to relax.

This thread sleep? With a diabetic dog ensuring I have to be up at 6am every day, without fail no matter what time I go to bed, a declined market in real estate in sales, not listings, thereby 12 hrs work 5 hrs sleep, my mind is probably not at it's best lately

I gleened from "don't wake me up", that it is dangerous? So, I was searching to find out why when all that stuff came up Trying to get an idea that's all oh and I forgot you had 10 years...

I guess it was more, the necessity to remain in the state that you are in and bring yourself out of it naturally...

I didn't say it was dangerous to get interrupted, it is just very unpleasant for me. They interrupted us regularly in school when the time was up. When they did I would be very disoriented sometimes to the point that I couldn't even talk. This would pass after a few minutes but I don't like it.

The only thing that might be dangerous is that my heart rate is reduced in the meditative state down in the 50's. If interrupted it jumps to over 100 instantly. I know this because we took turns wearing the monitor while meditating in school. When I finish naturally my heart rate stays low and only gradually increases to normal.

Yes mam I got that, hense the comment that I guess it was more of "bringing yourself out naturally"..

But, I personally if I ever do decide to try it, will seek training and not attempt it otherwise, as I did read alot on the dangers of meditation.....

I also made an error in my post I mean't 12hrs working and 5 hours of sleep yesterday, it is difficult to function without enough sleep let alone rest....

Being raised on a Working Ranch, we got up no later than 4:30 AM. Everyday,Sundays included, no sleeping in unless it was Summer time, School was out and the Cousins stayed at the Ranch. Then we took turns to sleep into 6-7 AM.

Cows had to be fed and milked, Chickens, Hogs, Turkeys, Horses, sheep goats and whatever other Animals we had, the herding and hunting Dogs, the Cats in the barn had to be watered , ( not fed , they ate mice ) . They all needed Fed and areas cleaned.

So my getting up at 4-4:30 is Natural, The thing is, when Younger ( Teen and Young Adult ) I stayed up later and got less sleep, needed less sleep it seems.
Now I'm in bed by 8 - 8:30, Asleep no later than 9:30 ( usually ) . If I stay up later I still get up at 4-4:30, but then night I go to bed earlier . Lol

It seems, my body needs at least 7 sleep to function properly during the day. On my days off I still wake up early, Usually check my emails and if I have nothing to do early, I will occasionally Crawl back into bed and " Snooze", but not past 8:30am ..

It was actually funny the other morning, I was in my Waking mode (4 ish AM ) kinda Dreaming a little and I heard a Rooster Crow, Thinking or dreaming being back on the Ranch, I jumped Awake, thinking I had overslept. It was 4:17 AM, Got out of bed, did my Morning stuff, got to my Computer room ,which two sides have windows and the windows were open, sat down after getting my coffee and Heard a Rooster Crow !

Looked out the window to the Home " kitty corner " behind my Apartment, that has a big yard and Garden area , there were Chickens and a Rooster Pecking away in the Garden.. And I live in Town..
Wonder how long before a Neighbor Complains about a Rooster Crowing at Dawn.?

Having stayed in Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Mexico, I can assure you that Roosters don't always crow at dawn. Some crow at around 2am, or 3am or 4am... And I can get them crowing at anytime since I can imitate roosters quite well. It is funny to see them look around for another rooster to start fighting with. I can keep them calling out for more than an hour, until I am bored.

I unfortunately only get about 2-4 hrs of sleep a night. Sometimes I get the opportunity for more, but I cant ever sleep straight thru. I wake up every couple of hours, then go back to sleep. The Dr.s say I have sleep anxiety brought about by PTSD. Hopefully someday they will fix me and I can sleep.

I absolutely don't get enough sleep. Proof of this is me on this site in the early hours of the AM instead of sleeping =/

I'm a night owl. No matter how dead tired I am, if it's later in the day I'll catch a second wind and won't be able to fall asleep. My body uses like reserve energy power to boost my mind and body at night time. When this happens, I have to do something to become tired ex: exercise, reading, watching long movie, writing, etc...

When I try to go to bed early I never, ever fall asleep. If it's before midnight, it's not going to happen unless I'm sick. I'll lie down and I won't be able to turn my mind off, or I just can't get comfortable so I toss and turn for hours. It's so aggravating! Most of the time I can only sleep when I can hear birds chirping outside my window.

When I finally doze off I can be easily woken up by sounds outside or inside my house. This is where it's weird. If it's still dark out when this happens, I can't fall back asleep. If it's daytime however, I can easily drift back to sleep and I will ALWAYS have a nightmare. And usually it's so scary I sleep through my alarm. But this only happens when I am woken up during early morning, with the sun up. It happens quite often and the nightmares are not giving me a relaxing, restful sleep.

I've done a lot to prevent this. I don't drink coffee later than 4 in the afternoon because it can keep me up all night. I don't eat close to bed time for fear of giving my body energy. I try to problem solve anything from my day earlier so I don't think about it when in bed, and any work I will also do ahead of time. If something really bad happened during the day I would have to talk about it to someone, most likely my bf, before being able to go to sleep.

When going to bed with my bf, I often ask him to give me back massages because that also keeps me up at night. But when I'm by myself, I do stretches, but it never helps my back like a massage. I also try heating pads before bed, but I don't always have the time or patience for that.

I get between 3-6 hours of sleep a night. If I'm not interrupted, however, I can sleep for a long period of time as if my body is putting me in a small coma to make up for the lack of sleep I get. The only time I am guaranteed sleep is when I'm with my bf, and I'm sexually satisfied. I can't sleep next to him if I want him, but if that's taken care of then I an sleep all night. It's really awesome.

But that's my story. I know it's not healthy, but I'm against using sleep-aids, so I'm doing what I can. Sorry for the long post, but I have lots of sleep-issues. =[
