I know I am an Aussie but surely you had these too as a kid?

What games did you love to play as a child as in board games or on paper?

    Me?

    HANG MAN
    NAUGHTS AND CROSSES

Favourite board game and still is but soooo lengthy is Monopoly...

I liked Mad Libs. They made me laugh.

    Go Fish.
    Old Maid.
    Tic Tac Toe.
And I can't think of the name, but it was the one where you'd have to write down your favorite car, fav color, crush, etc and then it would fit into a prediction of your future. Which by the way, wasn't true because I do NOT have a cerulean lamborghini.

I love doing mad libs with my older son. I used to play on family car trips when I was little. We have the same books that we used to use and I passed them on to my kids. You pick a story out of the book and it has a bunch of blanks you have to fill in, but you don't know what the story's about. It'll tell you to pick a noun or adverb or adjective or celebrity or whatever, and you go through the list until you have the word for each blank. Then you read the story back with the persons words in the blanks. It makes for a hilarious story.

Ahh yes... MASH ... or as we played it, MASHY (mansion, apartment, shack, house, yacht) LOVED that game.. the best part was getting the ones the other person picked because it would be HORRIBLE .. ... Mad Libs were awesome too...

I loved playing Sorry, UNO and Yahtzee ... favorite card game was Kings Corner.

I LOVED the game "Life." It was like an easier version of monopoly, and your pieces were little cars with teeny tiny people inside... and each time you had a kid or got married you could add a tiny person to your car... It was great fun.

Naughts and crosses is another name for tic tac toe (or the other way around). Same language, different words. My older brother and I played Euchre with our parents as kids. My older brother and I also played battleship on paper, but we used salvos that were reduced as the number of ships were lessened. We also played Monopoly with our mother.

I wasn't to big with I spy, but my 9 yr old loves it! My favorite card game was always crazy eights. We played monopoly regularly, but clue was my fave. I still like that one. When I was a bit older, my dad started getting a bunch of new board games. One we tried was cranium. I thought it was hilarious. It was kind of a mixture of a few different games.

Growing up on the Ranch, there wasn't very much time for Games. But Grandpa did play Checkers and Taught us all Chess . He always Won of Course. Lol

One Year one of my Great Aunts came for a couple of weeks for Butchering and Harvest time in the Fall and brought two games, Scrabble and Parcheesi, If we ( kids , over 12 of us, being Cousins and Siblings ) all worked hard, no fights between us, we could be taught and play the games at night before bed.

When Great Aunt Oleta Lynne , left she took the games with her. ( we knew this was going to happen so she told us to make a copy.) So we made the Game Drafts on Papers of the boards of our own . Later on that Fall and Winter we together made our Own Games.

They were Crude but functionable, Gramps gave us some plywood, cut it 2ft X 2 Ft for two boards, we then had to draw the Lines of where things went. Both Scrabble and Parcheesi.

Then we got to ( when Chores were Done and No Fights .. Lol ) use the electric Wood Burning/ Carving/ Engraving tool (s) and carve and darken in the Grooves for the Spaces and Places. With the Parcheesi Board, Gramps Drilled or actually Carved the Divets / Holes for the "Marbles" to sit in.

On to the Game Pieces, Themselves. We didn't have the Marbles the only Marbles we had were for the Circle Game with Cats Eyes and Steelies and Very Precious to us. So Gram taught us how to Make "Marbles ". Yep, Just like Makng Bread Dough, Flower, egg water , Salt, Bacon Fat/ or Lard ).

Only small pinches, round it out, round it out, round it out, get the basic " Round Shape, then add Elmer's Glue and add some Food Coloring (or Fabric Dye) and Round again. Finally we had the " Marbles " to play on our Very Own Not Store Bought Game of Parcheesi.

The Hard one was for the Srcabble "Tiles" We couldn't flatten them to Squares as well , and Evenly ,with the Dough , one at a time, then try to number and Letter them and have someone not Guess the Tile ..

So we decided to use a Coke Bottle Caps, we Wrote the letter & number point on Paper, cut them out and Glued it in the Cap(s), then filled it with Elmer's.

Like I said our Games were " Crude and Home Made" on the Ranch. But it seems Most of us has some Learning Involved in each Task.

And to My Great Auntie and other Long Gone, But Not Forgotten, Spirits.,

Thanks for getting us Interested enough to want to try to Play " Your Game " of Learning, without ( back Then ) Knowing we were Learning ..

You Have Won !! Again !!

Because I am Posting this on a Place you could Never Visit in Person. But You are in Spirit .
