Glad to see you posting again, baja.

So Nice to meet you Baja.
Thank you all again! I was on the site early this year but then became all-consumed with a sweet vacation to Rome, Italy, and several very large projects at work as well as a complete backyard upgrade (4 months work) that my landscaper recently completed (yes, he was beyond slow). With any luck I should cruise into the Christmas holiday with everything completely finished... well... one can always hope!
Ooohh, what's the backyard project? I love new landscaping ideas. And since I don't have a backyard anymore, I have to admire someone else's.
I've been in my house for years and the whole time I have ignored, then cleaned up, then ignored my backyard. My house sits on the side of a hill and almost feels like a tree-house when looking out the backside window. The backyard itself consists of a number of natural terraces until it reaches a rather large creek surrounded by protected wetlands. I've never really used the backyard since the rear of the house had perhaps a thin 10 foot wide strip of land with dense trees after that. Some of the trees -- tulip poplars -- grow like weeds. So last year I had enough when one of them was about to grow into my kitchen. I hired a landscape architect early this year and then found a pretty economical landscaper to make the immediate backyard usable. Now it has two flagstone patios, a fire pit that i can't wait to use when it gets colder, a retaining wall spanning the backyard (with natural stone), a fence around the perimeter of my backyard to keep the deer out, a few gates, new deckwork and new plantings all over the place. The work includes magnolias, to japanese maples, to gardenias, hostas, hydrangeas, multi colored azaleas, cone flowers, to plants I've never even seen before. As much as I enjoy it, I think the bees, butterflies, humming birds and other birds enjoy it even more. I'll have them come out again next spring to finish the exterior enhancements. I still have some higher-level terracing to re-stone, replace a sidewalk with flagstone, put a flagstone walkway in to encircle the house and replace some shoddy wood exterior decoration with matching stonework. Seems like home improvements never end, but this one has been years in the making and it is nice to see it almost complete. Whew!
It sounds amazing. Yeah, I gotta get a yard to work on. Lol. With a natural slope like that, I'd go with a little stream too.
