Firstly I watched a video today that was outstanding...

A Company selling seafood, one day, just lost it, started having fun...throwing fish and the other catching it to wrap up, which lead to people standing there and laughing / watching, to then walking over and getting those people to catch the fish, to then laughing, making jokes, as they serve their customers, making it like a show, having fun, it was amazing.

I won't go into more of this but what a great way to run a business.

Made me think as well...How we talk to people on different levels, age groups and if we are respectful, if we are too broad, stating comments across the board instead of realisation of how to talk to people based on sex, age, reading them.

And therefore your thoughts on this.

ie) The word love... "No problems love" does that, could that offend.

Talking to an older person, in a youth style method, is that respectful?

Coming from the Hospitality Industry I learnt to be wary and to acknowledge this, talk to people as best as you can in "their" language so they understand.

A down to earth person, "no worries"

A business person who has made it " certainly sir"

Do we use our language? Seriously which could offend or do we take the time to consider our welcoming or, sentence.

Personally, being trained in this area, I think it's important as the other person if generalized can feel degraded, non-respected.

    Your thoughts?

I definitely do this. I have to change my way of speaking alot. I work with kids and their families, with complex health issues. So when it comes to what they understand, I have to switch it up. Also have to switch it up, based on the age of the child. Using "do you have ouchies" to an 18 year old, isn't usually that effective. I also use broad terms like "buddy" or "sweetie" because they are little kids and usually don't care.

I find its really needed to speak to others levels to some point, but not too much.

    It's called the "Fish Principle".

    "Be what you're looking for."

"The next time you're thinking of kicking someone when they're down, offer them your hand and help them back up instead."

That sounds like our Pike Place Market, here in Seattle.

They started throwing Fish in 1986 and by 1990 , it was a World Famous Attraction.
Anytime I'm in the Market, I stop and watch them. Happy Group of Employee's and the Customers have a Blast and leave with a Smile.

But Not all smile about it, in 2009 PETA tried to get the "Flying Fish Show" stopped . They likened it to throwing Dead Kittens.

Of Course they do throw Catfish at The Market .. But they don't resemble the photo's above .. lol

    It's called the "Fish Principle".
That's it My description was good though, lols....Imagine me, "throwing money up in the air, as people come to inspect my houses?" Well I can't through fish....

Using "do you have ouchies" to an 18 year old, isn't usually that effective. I also use broad terms like "buddy" or "sweetie" because they are little kids and usually don't care.

I find its really needed to speak to others levels to some point, but not too much.
I remember ditching the "Aunty" at about the time the kids turned 11..or so...I could just "feel" a difference in them. So, one day, I said, "quit calling me Aunty.......it makes me feel old"...Call me AK... being the initials for my Aunty and my first name....Now they are 20, 21 and 16 and even their Cousins call me AK... It worked in bringing our relationship to a different level, where they felt "cool to discuss with AK"...

Same as the word "Dear" WT$%$ Seriously makes me feel like a Grandmother....

When I sell for the "older generation" I test and check their personalities and either treat them with respect or talk to them on my level, where they laugh and enjoy the journey... I think it's important to take that minute out and reflect before using broad names / terms...

BG you gotta make me laugh in the mornings Thank you. K you are off topic, seriously considering that you are adding to hi-jacking my thread, what to do, what to do:P

Aw, come on. It's only really a hi-jack if I had intended to steer the conversation away from the original topic, right? Ok, ok... give me a virtual smack if you must lol's.

Off Topic ?? Moi ? Hijacking ??? Really ( Innocent look ) I thought FishyThrowing was at least a teeny tiny, part of the Topic ?

So glad I could make ya Laugh there CW.

So onto the other part of the Now " un hijacked " thread. Hehehehe

The word love... "No problems love" does that, could that offend.

It could, depending on who it's said too and if their SO is there. Though calling someone "love " isn't a traditional USA saying, it's more Darling, Sweets, Sweetie, Sweetheart, Doll, Babe, Dear, Sugar, Baby, Honey.

Talking to an older person, in a youth style method, is that respectful?

This one is kinda hard to answer as it takes afew minutes to " get their Mood or Generational behavior " down,

Like sometimes and older Gentleman or Older Lady will come in . I'll ask, " how can I help you Ma'am/Sir or How you doing today ? "
I'll be shocked when they say " I'd be Frackin ( pinched also lol ) alot better when I can fix this Frackin POS car !!! "

Hey that's when I know they are Cool people then , not Old Fogy's

Do we use our language? Seriously which could offend or do we take the time to consider our welcoming or, sentence.

In our Company, we have a " Standard " Greeting, unless it's a regular Customer. It's Hi, How are you Doing, what are We working on today "?

We do get Smart azzes that say things like " I'm working on a Frackin Car, or I'm working on getting a quart of oil , antifreeze, other fluids".

Those we just hang back and let them go get the Fackin things they need themselves .. lol .
Or we follow them like Hawks, because we have so many Thieves, in our area and are not supposed to let people alone in Aisles by themselves for more than 30 seconds , or 30 feet away from an employee.

Personally, being trained in this area, I think it's important as the other person if generalized can feel degraded, non-respected.

I so agree with you, though we get all kinds in our store at one time, Sweet lil ole ladies and gents, Teens Wreaking of Pot,Bad Azz dudes, tweekers, Young miltary wives with their kids or babies and the other customers don't even think to watch their Language and slam the " Frack " work left and Right.
