Default Feedback on using creativity on resumes

I started picking up applications earlier this week, and the hotel next door said my application would look better with a resume. I looked up some examples and made sure I put all the needed info on it.

Awhile back I read an article saying that with all the problems finding employment, it's better to spice up your resume and do something creative with it. I read an article today that said doing this can make you seem untrustworthy and employers don't like it.

I'm doing it anyways because it seemed like more fun that way, but what does everyone think? I think it depends on the job. If you would do your job better using creativity, show it on the resume. If it's a formal job where everything is suppossed to be handled a certain way, do a formal resume.

I used some scapbooking supplies and made the cover look like a made up bed. Since not getting this job wouldn't be the end of the world, I just went with what I wanted to do.

Depends on the field. For something like a desk job, it might be a little tacky and seem a bit too desperate, like "Hey, look at me!" lol. But for like a creative oriented field, having a creative and interesting looking resume is a must. If you do go that route, don't go overboard. Make it interesting, yet clean. Make sure it's still clear and concise, not confusing to read. Not to toot my own horn, but look up graphic designer's resumes for inspiration, they have some of the best ones out there.

Resume's now are Explaining why they should Hire You and why They need you and your skills.

Several " Resume's" are best. Make ones that Fit the Job you are looking to apply for.
    1) use Quality ( Qualifications ) words

Take the word " I can, have or I am " out of any Resume, Save that for the Interview.
    Use Proficient Qualified, Experienced,Knowlege of.

If you can or have used a phone in your work and Good at it, handling several Lines at a time.
Put in Communications/ Multi tasking,/Control/Management. Customer Service.

If a register is involved.( cash or billing ) put it in also. If Computers are involved at all ,put in the things you know and Can Do.

Logistics is an extremely Positive Key Word. So are Waste or Service Management. Hazardous Waste. Precision tools,, Solution Management. Problem Solving . Product replacement or management.

This simply tells the " New Manager " that you can or have in the past.

    1) Answered a Phone or can use a Computer, take credit or cash for products or learn to use their System.

    2) Have used or cleaned a bathroom or cleaned up trash or Chemical Spills safely.

    3) You can or have used a Drill, hand or electric Screw Driver, Sander, Vacuum cleaner, Microwave, Cell phone, Measuring type items for testing equipment ( like the lil old tester to see if there is Current on a Light bulb in your Car ).

    4) You are Hireable due to your " Skills " and the possibility that They want your " Special Skills ' Now.

Boeing in our State is hiring Now. One of our Good Employees just left. Because he Got a Better Job. He is just 21 and on to a Better Life than our Company can for his advancement and future goals, give him.

He made his Application/ resume with the ones above ( Qualities ) we were told that Boeing has a Generated Job Application. As I am finding most companies go Online for Apps.

They have a " Key Word " generator that sorts Apps.

    What got me was,

This youngin is getting $14 an hour for " Servicing/ Stocking and logistics's of the Public area's .

    hmmm
Cleaning Boeing or Public Bathrooms gets ya $14 an hour ?
And I am Happy he got his foot in the Door. We are Missing an Employee.

    Next ?
    lol

    So is it Hotel Work?

What always catches my eye in addition to experience to what I am looking for, is the fire in the belly, attitude, the marketing of the resume.

I would say it really depends on who's looking at your resume. In the future, see if you can chat with the hiring manage on the phone to get a "read" on him/her. See if he/she sounds open-minded, kind, "into" creativity ... or if he/she sounds super-serious and traditional.
And BTW, you should ALWAYS put in a resume for a job! Even if it's for an interior position in your company. When dealing with online applications, look for a page that lets you upload your resume. If it exists, send it in! My husband recently had to do his own hiring for a position (usually an HR manager deals with selecting who will be interviewed, but his HR had recently quit and not been replaced.) There were some VERY qualified internal applicants who didn't put in a resume with their application, which to him meant they didn't care about the job ... so their applications got thrown out. I bet he would have liked your creative resume. It shows a real dedication to the idea of the job, which would translate easily to a dedication to the job itself.
Have you heard anything back? I'd be interested in knowing what the hiring manager said about your "bed!"

According to me, creativity in resume would work when involved in art, design type of work.
For line of business like software engineering, project/programme management, it would seem out of place.
In the end, the employer must be able to see how your talent would translate into his particular business.
Then, comes the interpersonal skills when you have come the core competencies hurdle.

When I turned it in, they said they'd be looking at applications on Monday, so I'm guessing they went with someone else. Oh well, I had fun with it anyways. The lady that took my application said the hiring manager would appreciate the creativity. I might call just to get their feedback and opinions of my bed resume. Lol
