What business are you planning on?

You are correct you must always start small not big...

You are also best to study first, a business course which you may be able to get a grant for, because without a business plan and sound knowledge of how that plan can be put into action and work, from studying that particular area, researching a Grant can not, i believe, be obtained on a "dream" a good dream but that is all it is to the Government.

You may also have to look at what you are good at and start part time work, so that you can afford to do this, that can then maybe become full time, whilst you study.

Dreams can come true trust me.. I own a successful business that has it's ups and downs and i have had to do all the hard yakka, including getting Diplomas and studying whilst still working...

This poses another question i guess, do you like studying? Do you realise the hours involved whilst working to support that dream at the same time?

Or are you better of working and waiting until you have savings so you can start that dream?

Dreams are important however, so never stop dreaming....

Just be ready for the reality of them.

I'm in the same situation. I'm trying to start an online business so I can work from home.... selling things on ebay... But I am finding that in order to do this I need money that I just do not have so I need a business grant. I don't want a loan, if my business does not do well I won't be able to pay it back. Grants are free money that you never have to pay back. I'm disabled and my doctors do not want me working outside the home. But I don't qualify for Social Security Disability either so... this is the only way I can think of to get on my feet financially speaking...............

Good luck to both of you ladies. Soon I will be in the same boat, so I better have some plans as well. Maybe go to school for some business management college hours coupled with cullinary arts...or maybe nursing/nursing aide as a start (gosh...help me!).

It is generally a good idea to start with a business plan before you look for funding. You need to describe what you are planning to do and estimate costs, revenues, and income.

Say you want to start trading things on ebay - you need to document other similar businesses and describe how yours will compare.

Imagine someone asking you to loan them money to start a business in return for a share of the profits. Think of all the questions you would ask that person, and then put the answers in your business plan. If you have done your homework well and have a really solid case, it is much easier to get funding.

One thing though - running your own business is LOT more effort than working for someone else.
