Default Why do you think it is...

that the previous generation (baby boomer era) are so opinionated, yet so blissfully ignorant?
and why do you think it is that their kids are extremely apathetic, confused, and so open to anything that seems to make sense?

Examples being - "Back in our day, we used to fight for what we believe in! We'd sit out on street corners and PROTEST!" For what? To save a tree? To encourage government handouts? That's silly. What happened between the time that people took up arms to express their opinion to a time when nobody has an opinion, and couldn't care less?

Why is it that the older folks vote republican because republicans are republican, and not for any other reason outside of them being republican? Even if their republican candidate wanted to sell the country to China, they'd vote for the republican because he's republican..

Or the democrats wanting to vote for democrats because they don't want evil republicans running the country. Even if the democrats wanted to sell the country out even moreso than the republicans?

I mean, is it about democrats and republicans, or is it supposed to be about what's good for the friggin country? Personally, I DESPISE both. Universal healthcare that covers bandaids and no more than 10 stitches and nothing else in under a 6 month waiting period? I just don't get it..

With religions, is it about "I belive in God, and you should too. Everybody does, and if you don't you're not cool enough to fit into my social group of God. I can't quote a single passage out of any chapter in the bible, but by God I believe in God, and BAN GAY MARRIAGE IT'S EVIL!"

or is it more about, "Hey, this book says things about compassion, knowledge, and the absence of vanity. That's a good way to look at people, I wish more would do the same for a slightly more civilized lifestyle."

What's the deal, guys? Everybody here is either from that generation, or a descendant of that generation. What do you think? Am I right in thinking the people that came a little before me spoke out of ignorance and did nothing to educate themselves, thus confusing the out of everyone?

I think you're making a LOT of stereotypes and you should think twice about a lot of the things you have said.
"Everybody" is a dangerous word and you're throwing a lot of buzzwords out ... extremely, silly, sell out ...
Is this a rant or a legit question?

Both.. and yes, everybody isn't exactly what I meant, but by everybody I meant the majority of people.

and to further clarify.. Sell out wasn't the best choice of words. My fiance caught me mid post so I had to rush it cuz she wanted attention and all of that..
Anyway, I mean neither the democrats nor the republicans look out for the interests of America. The repubs and the democrats both wreak havoc on the constitution.

What I'm gettin at is, the protesters these days seek our dependence. Whereas, the people who founded this country sought independence. I just wanna know why that is.

I understand your frustration, and in being frustrated there may have been harsh conclusions and stereotypes, but none the less a valid problem. There are a lot of things wrong with the way (the majority) of people think. Where I live, politics can be summed up in one phrase, "straight ticket". Meaning the general thought is, "I'm Christian, and Republicans are Christian, so every Republican will do what I want, which is best for everyone." If you read that quotation with a southern twang, then you'll fully understand it. The party system is, in my opinion, very skewed. Personally, I am democratic, but I vote on the person, not the party. All the way from my local mayor, to my House Rep, to President.

I was raised in a traditional Christian family, as well as my boyfriend, however, let me explain the difference of opinions between our parents that are apart of the "Baby Boomer Generation". My parents are proud that I have made my own political decisions based on intense research and personal beliefs. Where as my boyfriends parents find it appalling that I would even THINK to vote in a non-Christian to be our American leader. I could go on, but I'll spare you the details. I now understand why my mother always told everyone at dinner to "Not discuss religion or politics at the table."

Everyone has made up their mind, whether it be by the media, the mass opinion, their family, or by themselves. There is nothing you could do about that but be patient, understanding and...humble, for lack of a better word. Although now and then, you are allowed to vent.

I too share in your frustration. The sad thing is the despair one feels of not being counted or inability to truley change anything. The hipocracy of political and religous groups is hair pulling. I've been in countless polital and religious debates and in the end nothing is accomplished. One might feel like a speck in the ocean, unable to do anything but go with the current and the tide.

We live in scarry times hopefully the elections to come can do some real good and make me be proud to be an American again.

Something I think that Americans have forgotten...
"Any society that will give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and loose both" - Benjamin Franklin -
