Sounds about right to me. Like you said he was too busy chatting to a woman to care much about ripping you off. Be grateful she was there, lol.
So I'm probably not the only one who goes to a car mechanic and feels like there is something fishy going on, and that the men behind the counter are taking advantage of the fact that I'm a girl and I do not know much about vehicles.
I went to get a nick (sp?) in my windshield repaired and the guy behind the counter at Alderfer Glass seemed a little skeevy. After all, when I pulled up, he was busy chatting away with some blonde in a black mustang rather than doing his job. He told me it would cost about $70.00 for the repair, and I felt like that was too high. I can't quite remember how much I paid for a nick in my last car, but this nick is the same size, and I don't believe I paid that much.
Can everyone just give me an idea of what you paid for windshield repair?
Thanks so much.

Glass repair is really expensive. A whole windshield can cost over $1000. Is the nick really that important to repair? In my experience, when you've just repaired it is when a rock falls off a truck and makes a huge crack >.<
I have had times where the men in the shops think I don't know what I'm talking about. I grew up with my father and brother always working on vehicles so I know a little bit about them. Heck I even work on my own vehicle .... but have become lazy the last couple of years since my boyfriend will do it for me.
I went to an auto parts place several weeks ago and was needing a particular after market performance part for my car. I told the guy exactly what I needed and he proceeded to tell me that such a part was not available for my vehicle. I told him it was and he continued to argue with me .... I finally said "it most certainly is available because I have one on my car now". I wished I'd had a camera, his face was priceless.![]()
I actually looked up how to fix a crack and it's extremely easy. I bought at kit at Pepboys for about $13 and it took me about 45 minutes, and most of the time was time waiting for the next step. Hopefully it holds up...Last time I tried to do something car related on my own, I made a huge mess. This time wasn't nearly as bad. Basically, I would have paid him $70.00 to do a couple of easy steps and wait around. I love being self sufficient![]()
Haha, thats funny. I do the same, sort of, i usually ask one of my guy friends what he thinks is wrong with the car and what part i should get, then i trot off to the mechanic and reel off my car jargon that ive learnt...works every time.
Tis true though, i always get looked up and down as if im the only female that theyve ever seen in their entire life. Their faces soon change when i start talking about manifold gaskets and hydralic lifters![]()
