You are wanting to start your own thread? Piece of cake... Click on the 'Forum' button on the upper left, next to 'Blogs' and 'What's New?'. Find what forum best suits your subject matter and click on that forum. There is a blue button '+ Post New Thread'. Click on that button, enter in your title and type away ma'am.

Same thing, but go to Edit Avatar rather than Edit Profile Picture.

Go to Settings (top right, next to log out), then go to Edit Profile Picture (on the left side). There are a bunch of ones already in there, or you can use your own. If you use an actual picture, you will have to reduce it a great deal, I don't really recommend it.
