Hi Scramble. Please let me know if you get this. I'd prefer to discuss on a non-google searchable site due to privacy concerns, but I can say a bit.

I work in a large lab and often mentor students and interns. I might have some additional insight in your situation. I don't need to know enough to identify you, but maybe if you can give an idea of the type of lab you are in (government / industry / university), and the type of work (bio? chem? physics? electronics? engineering?).
