I am a 42 year old childless woman who had a UNIlateral oophorectomy in July of 2007 for a possibly cancerous ovarian cyst. Due to fam history & size of cyst my gyno he felt I should go ahead with the surgery. I was 40 years old, with monthly periods.
Prior to surgery, gyno went over the basic dangers of surgery with me and my husband. Gyno specifically mentioned that infertility was NOT a concern, since he was just taking the one ovary, and insisted that I did not need to take any pre surgical action to preserve my fertility. PROBLEM: After the surgery, I went into menopause, and I am now post menopausal. To me, it seems my doctor premeditatedely ended my ability to reproduce. He says I "must've been in menopause before the surgery". Well, now I am in . Not only will I never have a child of my own, I am trying every day, not to completely LOSE MY MIND/LIFE. The menopausal symptoms are killing me. I feel extremely confused and helpless. I don't have a lot of money to find a "specialist". But, if I do nothing, I'm afraid I'm going to lose my job and probably my will to live soon after that. Oh, and by the way, the cyst was benign. Do you have any advice or suggestions? |

Doctor's are human and make mistakes.
People whom make mistakes will make excuses.. Google your question for answers, if it seems basically that there is neglect? Then take action... If it seems that there is no conclusion? Then seek advise. The one thing you need more than anything here, is closure... Good luck. CW

Get another opinion from a doctor who is not closely affiliated with yours, find out what is going on. You are young to have already been in menopause. Didn't they do a full panel and hormone check before the surgery? That would indicate menopausal situation or not. What's your family history on the onset of menopause?
Stress and trauma can cause all sorts of reactions and responses. Some counseling sounds in order at any rate. Many women don't have children and live full happy lives, you can too. You will have to grieve and then move on. Don't let this destroy your life. Get some help. |
