Exclamation 29 and dealing with menopause?!

I will 29 years old soon and, after an irregular PAP and blood tests ruling out any STD's my GYN diagnosed me with what he believes to be early menopause. As relieved as I was to rule out any and all STD's I left the office filling great and forgot to ask ANY questions regarding why on earth I would be menopausal at 28 or what the symptoms are.
Any help on either of these questions would be great!
(Also, I have been experiencing hair loss. Though I am not going bald, this is very scary!! Is this a symptom of menopause??)

What exactly was it that made you see the doctor in the first place? I mean, what was the initial problem? I know you mentioned you were tested for STDs, but did you get a hormone test? I just wonder what the doctors basis is for thinking it may be early menopause.

Have you been on birth control at all? Birth control can make your hair start to fall out. I know this from personal experience. Birth control can also make you seem almost menopausal in some cases. Hairloss can occure in women with menopause, but it also happens for a lot of other reasons to women who are NOT in menopause.

You could have a hormone imbalance which may be completed unrelated to early menopause. That would be easilly treated with hormone therapy.

It's hard to really give advice without knowing more. If you are not comfortable or satisfied with what your doctor has diagnosed, get a second opinion.

    Unhappy The details

The details are that I had a itchy rash. This is what caused my to call my GYN in the first place. His first thought was an STD which is what brought on all the blood tests. My hormone levels were not checked. He called me at home and said that in some cases Menopause will bring on such a rash and prescribed a steroid cream. He said that if the cream got rid of the rash (which it did and does with flare up's) he was to assume that it was early menopause, if not I was to come in for another visit. He admited that my case "stumped him a bit".

You want my honest opinion? Find a new doctor! Sounds like this one doesn't know what he is doing! You don't get rashes from menopause. And for him to just assume that without taking any hormone tests or anything is ridiculous!

What did the rash look like? I get rashes during the winter time that make me itch like crazy. I thought there was something wrong with me too. I went to a dermatologist and he told me it's just dry skin because the humidity levels drop in the winter. So he has me using lotion several times a day and I am fine.

Of course, you could have had a rash from something else, but surely not menopause. My goodness! And steroid cream would clear up just about any rash. I honestly think you should go to a completely different doctors office from now on. If you are worried about early menopause, then you should have hormone tests done to determine that.

    Good luck!

TAdams, I agree with what your doctor said about the rashes and menopause, because I am one that has rashes with menopause. It comes mostly at night, red rashes around my neck sometimes my arms stomach and breasts. It's an itchy mess. I'm not sure what to do either. We are the few I guess. Good luck
