My DD was diagnosed with PMDD at age 17. A little about her symptoms at that time and why we acted: depressed, cried a lot for no real reason, anxiety, periods were coming every other week or so, etc. It was bad enough that her friends and teachers were noticing a very significant change in her. Blood work was done at that time to rule out other causes. She was put on Yaz. It worked miracles for her. She is now 19. Since that time we've discovered she has a minor heart valve issue. Her most recent cardiologist visit indicated no change over the past year (good thing). He was aware she is on Yaz. Gyn is aware of the heart issue. Given recent disclosures about Yaz and heart attacks, I am a bit concerned about her continued use of this pill. It's almost time for her yearly check-up so I'm doing a bit of research.
That concern leads me to a couple of questions. Does PMDD ever go away over time? Has anyone else ever started out with Yaz, switched to a different birth control pill and remained symptom free? Looking back at that "bad time" as we call it, I think it's possible some of the symptoms may have been situational and perhaps she could now change pills. She is also a very happy, successful college student, and none of us want her to have to experience that pain again though.
Thanks for any insight.
Hi rah, I['ve moved your thread out of Menopause and placed it into this section.
There are certainly other methods of birth control other than Yaz, as well as other pills that may be more suitable.
She definately needs to discuss this with her Doctor and have them explain all the different options to her.
I know that here, there are 6 monthly implants for instance, that appear to work very well.
Best wishes.
