Hi all
I'm new to this blog site and I thought I'd begin contributing immediately. I feel rather fortunate not to have experienced anxiety to the level many ladies have. I do suffer menopausal anxiety - usually during the night. I've started taking troche (prescribed by my doctor) recently and it's made a huge difference, not only to anxiety BUT to most menopausal symptoms.
I look forward to reading about everyone's experiences - after all we're all in this together!
I am over a year postmenopausal. Only now am I realizing the physical sensations of the past few years (including anxiety, which manifested itself in ridiculous ways), were related to hormonal changes. These feelings were sometimes vague and of short duration, but they popped up often enough to be puzzling and disturbing. I had lots of tests done, even one for kidneys and bladder (BTW, loss of estrogen can contribute to bladder discomfort). Nothing was found, except cholesterol was too high (I am thin and athletic, so that was a shock!) I am attempting to control that with diet, but I fear statins are in my future (my Dr is very much a traditionalist).
I think that the hormonal changes magnify emotions. I felt irrational at times. But these days I am so calm and emotions are so leveled out, more like how normal people feel. But I have a number of friends for who perimenopause was nightmarish. Two of my friends took leave from their jobs bc they felt so awful. I count myself lucky.
