Due to surgically induced menopause .... I was thrust into a whole new world of 'issues' ... hot flashes, night sweats, temper tantrums, no sex drive, and insomnia .... it torn my relationship apart ... that was 10 years ago (ages 30 now 40) .... the good ole' doc put me on estradiol right from the start .... so I wasnt so quick to anger ... but that was about it for the relief .... estroven (available at your local wal-mart) ... helped initially with the hot flashes and night sweats ... but in time that wore off. I haven't found much relief from the 'hots' but I did find that Melatonin (natural sleep aid) works for the insomnia ... its non addictive and all natural so you don't have the morning after blahs. As for the hots ... I now keep an ice pack in the freezer at all times ... when a hot flash hits I put it on the back of my neck ... seems thats the fastest place to cool you off ... hope this helps for some .... now all I need is my sex drive back ... anyone know where to find one??? they arent on sale at wal-mart

Default Unsure?

Well I think I am going through menopause, but it is so confusing.
I am 51 my periods always regular.
Now I have not had one for two months but I started a light mucosy bleed thinking it was my period starting, but this was about a week ago, and every day I have pain like my period is coming but the same light spotting and that is all, so I really don't know. No other symptoms. I am very unsure even though a lot of Women experience this earlier than me.
Are the tests to check your hormones accurate or not. Has anyone had one done.

Post me too

Hello ladies,

I have just turned 45 and it's unusual for my period to be 6 days late, can doctors do any tests on me to see if i'm heading this way or is it too early just yet and just keep a check on how i go.Only thing i have noticed is that i'm very warm at bed time and sleeping on top of the bed and i have to admit that i'm feeling moody.

OK so I thought I was "done".
WELL two weeks later, I made up for lost time! AND THE FATIGUE that comes with it. Horrible.
Now I have a question. Anyone out there having insomnia as a result of peri-meno?
I used to sleep like a baby till a couple years back. EVERY night I find myself falling asleep easily, then about 2 hours later I am awake for an hour then go back. ANNOYING! Haven't had a straight nights sleep for quite awhile. My husband wants to go to bed early and I am NOT ready for sleep. Then he thinks I am avoiding him. HELP!
Go to bed with him so he doesn't think your avoiding him, then afterwards get up if you can't sleep. That's what I do.
Insomnia? Comes with the territory doesn't it?

Question confused

I am 48 and haven't had a period for over a year. The practice nurse says it might be because of the contraceptive pill I am taking (mini pill I think it is Micronor), however I have been on this pill for years and yet my periods were as regular as clockwork up until about 3/4 years ago when I would go for a couple of months without one then 5/6 months without one now, nothing. I am now having night sweats (Fab!). I don't know whether to stop the pill or not. I can't bear the thought of being pregnant at my age but really don't want to continue to put these chemicals in my body.

Gosh, and I thought I was on my own. Having all the same symptons , 11 days late, cramps like I use to have when I was 16 and mood swings like a teenager, don't feel like talking to anyone. Luckily I am on a weeks break from work so seen as I am working with 3 men in an office and I am sure they don't want to share it with me at the moment, I decided I am going to the doc tomorrow. This really can't go on. I am only 48 and want to enjoy my life!!
I'll keep you posted!!!

you wouldnt happen to have the mirena IUD in you do you...?

my periods were very heavy after having my boys they said it came from having tubes tied... so i decided to have the IUD put in last feb just to slow down the bleeding and man does it cause mood swings...

just wondering.... IM prob startting to go thru meno-pause to because i started my period when i was 9yrs old, not having hot flashes but moody, heart palpitations, dizziness and all those things we women have to go thru....

I'm currently 39 and have experienced the hot flashes, mood swings and my periods are never on time. I suffer from severe cramps, clotting etc. My doctor says it isn't menopause and that all is fine however, I know something isn't right. Now I am also suffering from the inability to sleep, I sleep a couple hours then I am awake for the rest of the night. My hubby doesn't know what to do and the kids think I have lost it completely any suggestions would be appreciated.
