Smile HRT and Birth Control Pills

Hello, I am new here and this looks like a very nice and informative place. I have recently entered menopause and the dr. put me on an HRT called Activella. I have a twin sister that takes it and says it has helped her alot. I have never had children and do not want any. My dr. told me I cannot get pg now....and I didn't believe her because I've heard otherwise. So I looked it up on the internet and found out you can get pg in menopause especially if you just started so do not depend on that for birth control. So I started taking my birth control pills again and I didn't tell my dr. because she seems to believe I cannot get pg and would think I was going overboard.

Does anyone here take HRT and their birthcontrol pills both? I am 47 and my sister says I am having periods because I am on the BCP. My fsh level when they took it two weeks ago was 53.5. I do not know what the level means, but the dr. said I am in menopause and she prescribed Activella.

Thank you very much for any information anyone can provide.

I can't answer your question throughly, but I can give you some advice: get a new doctor. A good doctor can frequently put you on a product that can address the symptoms of menopause and serve as birth control at the same time. You definitely should NOT be taking HRT and self-dosing on birth control pills. Unless you understand what you are doing, you can get your hormones out of balance and cause all kinds of problems, perhaps even nullifying the effects of your birth control. Get a new doctor and tell them everything you are taking.

You should not be taking both of those and by not telling your doctor you are putting yourself at great risk to have a hormonal imbalance and feel like total - trust me I have been there. OMG at 47 years old, you should not be on BCP - it is synthetic hormones. The older we get the worse the BCP is for us - risk of cancer etc! I hope you are using bio-identical hormones for your HRT - the other synthetic stuff is garbage and harful to our bodies. Good luck!!
