Hi, need info please. I'm 53, been very regular since 13. Early this spring I had an on/off period for about a month. Then 2 very normal ones. Now, I'd been mostly on but very light for the better part of 6 weeks. Never heard of this from anyone else. Is this weird or what? Thanks for any input you have.

I'll be 53 next month. A couple years ago I hit a very high stress culmination to top off several high stress years. I went from very regular period, down to the hour almost, to sporatic bleeding and then continuous bleeding. I visit to my GYN resulted in a prescription for some sort of premarin which turned me into am emotional rollercoaster wreck within a matter of days.
I threw them out and went back and said, "this will not do. I've been talking to my sisters and how about..."
I got a D&C and ablation and it was great. NO more bleeding, no more hassle.
I suggested this was a part of moving into menopause but my dear doc (who is also of this age) said No, stress is the cause. Stress produces hormones changes and can mess up everything else.

Sooooo, take a good look at what is going on with your life. Exersize? Diet? Relaxation techniques? Do you take time to Breathe consciously?

The weirdo thing with menopause is that you would think since your periods will be ending that they will gradually taper off (my mom died long before so I has no one to ask for family history) instead they usually get closer together and may get heavier - sort of a last hurrah?

Anyway this doesn't sound like cause for concern.

thanks for reply, stress isn't a big deal. i've retired and have a pretty calm life. I eat well and exercise 5-6 times a week, including yoga twice a week. Have found this to be a very helpful site and have relaxed a bit. But, what a pain!! feels like being 14 again, even got the facial breakouts to prove it.
