Although the Dr had you on testosterone to even out your swings, did it produce an increase in libido? Were you having the flushing and sweats on it? Did you try to vary the dose to get most of the good results without the side effects?
Hello,
I'm new today,
I apologise for my long post in advance, but i could really do with some advice.
From my post title above you can see i had an early full Hysterectomy at 32, 5 yrs ago.
Because i was so young when i had the Op, my consultant told me i should be on HRT straight the way for at least 20 years!
Not knowing much about HRT i did as i was told!
Soon after things went downhill, with my moods, depressive, etc, & eventually the consultant decided to give me the Testosterone implant as well, which i had for approx 2/3 years. (To balance out my moods he said)
(I ended up going private for these as the NHS couldnt offer me regular implants when i needed them, also very expensive as i remember)
This seemed to do the trick...for a while, although i hated having to go for the implant so often (it only worked for about 3 months in my case) let alone the numerous scars i was getting in my groin area.
Then after a while i noticed increased hair growth on my face, although my Husband disagreed. (I think he just wanted me to stay sane!)
I felt i couldnt continue having them so i stopped the implants.
This was approx 1 year ago.
Anyhow, to try & cut a long story shorter! I have just been on HRT patches & Tablets alone since then.
My libido had been low for quite a while, but just recently it has totally vanished.
I am also now having hot flushes, & sweating excessively all the time, even though i am on HRT.
Basically, i need advice on the following please:
1- Is it safe to be on HRT for such a long time (20yrs)?
2- Why am i suddenly having flushes etc if i'm on HRT? Do i need to change my dose?
3- Should i just come off HRT & go natural? if this is the case being only 37,
will i have symptoms for the next 20 odd years??? God forbid!
4- And what the heck do i do about my libido?!!!!
I know i'm asking alot! But any advice would be really appreciated.
Thank you

Hi, thanks for the reply.
I would say that yes my libido did improve while on Testosterone. And i don't remember having sweats & flushes either.
But i guess i just didn't want to end up with a beard! so vanity stopped me having the implants in the end.
Its a case of swings & roundabouts i suppose, which is the lesser evil?!
A sex drive-with a beard!
Or no sex drive-facial hair free!
Can i ask you what your take is on my HRT dilemma?
Do you think its safe for me to stay on it for the 20yrs the consultant stated?
I'm worried about the Breast cancer connection with HRT in the long term.
Thanks
The 20 years was to take you to an age where your body would normally go through menopause. There must be some reason they want menopause to be in the early 50s as it is in nature. I am not a doctor: you will have to ask a doctor what the reason is. Also find out if the HRT is more of a cancer risk than naturally occurring hormones. I know some types of breast cancer seem to be fueled by estrogen.

Thank you for your advice Jns, I think you're right that i need to make an appoinment to put a few of these questions to a doctor.
As its been 5 yrs since the op, i think i need to find out some things that i'm going to be happy with in the longterm.![]()
Gracie, what you are experiencing is common, and not surprising. The uterus is a hormone responsive sex organ that supports the bladder and the bowel. Women who experienced uterine contractions during orgasm cannot experience them after her uterus is removed. You can read what other women report about loss of sexual feeling after hysterectomy at hersfoundation.com/effects.html. There is also a short but very informative video about the functions of the uterus and ovaries, and what happens when they are removed, on the same website at hersfoundation/anatomy.
