I was just reading up on this, to try to gleen what you may be feeling.
From all that I read, there is pain associated with burning mouth syndrome, also dry mouth, taste buds are very active and you can really taste your food, perimenopause and Menopause does seem to come into play.
Do you have any pain associated with the bad taste? Burning mouth syndrome tends to also associate with pain.
My fiance has Sjogren's Syndrome.. This also can affect postmenopausal women, the salivary ducts are not performing to their best. Do you also have dry eyes?
You may like to google that as well and see whether that fits into this.
Given you have written this on the "menopause" section, this condition is rarely known about from what I can gather, it runs in his family but it took years to be diagnosed and alcohol, cigarettes also cause the dryness.
Just something else to consider but ultimately it's the symptoms you have to describe in full to your Doctor so that he/she can determine what he/she thinks it may be and help you with it.

Has anyone experienced or know about this problem as I would like to know if it is common or not?

I have been experiencing the burning sensation in my mouth for about 6 months, and each time I ovulate, it's worse. I had a hysterectomy in 2006, but they were able to leave one of my ovaries, so I would have my own hormones until menopause. . . hoo-freakin-rah! Well, I am 45, perimenopausal, and NOT enjoying my hormones!
