    Default bleeding after menopause..

I'm 51, started menopause at 45. I am now bleeding again, lightly in the past year, but more heavily in the past week. Help! I have been under stress and am hoping that is all it is... Any advice besides the 'go to the doctor' thing?

Would like to add the stressors for me are- in the past 6 years, I have started menopause, lost my job, got married, and moved

OK I'll jump in here, it is not unusual to have spikes and dips in your hormones as you go through menopause. Additionally as we age the lining of the uterus thins and the amount of shedding may become less and less so your new normal is less bleeding, however, With a spike in the hormone and an increase in the lining for whatever reason, you then will have more bleeding. Don't be surprized if this lasts some significant amount of time and a few more years yet. Everyone is different and if we could "get over menopause" in a short period of time (Archie Bunker suggested something like 30 seconds) then we'd all be fine. My Mother had break-through bleeding in her 70's due to an increase in her hormone level and indeed she had to have a D&C.
If you are under stressors then these can have an influence on your balance and yes could influence your entire body chemistry.

Yes, it could be something that is nothing. If I had this problem I would be at the doctor, but maybe you do not have insurance or cannot afford it & you said that you have already considered going to the Dr, so I won't tell you to see one, just that I would if this were me. From what I know about this, constant spotting is more of concern than just this out of nothing bleeding incident. Do you have other discharge?? You are still young enough that your ovaries might occasionally wake up and pulse out some estrogen and that would explain it. Or if you gained weight, fat cells are glands and can make estrogen too. You might have spiked enough estrogen for a few days that the uterus was stimulated and bleeding happened. The uterus is very sensitive to hormones, just like everything in our reproductive system.

But none of us are physicians (at least I am not anyway). I know I have read alot of menopause books and am recalling what I read (which I might be incorrectly remembering too, so make sure you do your own research on this too). Hope this helps.. Cc57

I am 59 and had a "period" 3 years after menopause. The denial thing seems attractive, but.... After some tests it was determined my endometrial lining was thicker than normal so I am to see an ob/gyn this week for a biopsy. There is so much that can be done if something "bad" is caught early. I am scared, too. The tests are entirely painless, if you have no insurance is there some free womens clinics around? You owe it to your new husband and yourself to not wait. Any bleeding after menopause is considered abnormal.

Stress maybe causing your body to go overload but i can't help but advise you to seek medical help. For someone who goes through menopause, bleeding or irregular discharge may occur but I dont know the severity of your experience so better go to someone who has more knowledge and capability to assess the situation.
