Thread: Dull Pain during sex and tampon insertion, I'm 40, is this a sign of menopause?

Hi ladies, For about the past 6 months or so, whenever I insert a tampon, I feel a dull, achy pain it feels like against the vaginal wall. I also feel this pain initially during sex with my husband. It eventually goes away, but the pain is the same each time. Has anyone else experienced this feeling as a side effect of menopause? I turned 40 in August, and do have night sweats from time to time along with mood swings, but I haven't heard of this symptom before. It doesn't sound like vaginal dryness to me.

I am thinking about having my hormone levels checked next week to see if something might be off, but this type of pain almost feels like the vaginal cavity has shrunk!

Any thoughts?

Update. I went to the OBGYN last week and Dr. said everything looked normal, but because of the pressure I was feeling, we scheduled an ultrasound for today. I just got the call from the nurse that it's not menopause, but an ovarian cyst along with a uterine fibroid.

Although no one replied to this post, hopefully others that are experiencing the same type of pain will go have it checked out.
