Don't worry. It is normal to have feelings like that. We all have felt that way, I am sure. We all worry that the blood will get onto our clothes and then we end up with a big mess. Many women have had this happen a time or two. I have had my own share of "accidents".
Here are some tips that might help you...
Learn how your period flows. Is it heavier near the beginning or end? When it is heavier, be sure to use pads and tampons made for heavy flow. If you can, make regular trips to the bathroom to change them for clean ones. When you use the bathroom, you can use your lower abdomin muscles to push out any excess blood if you are bleeding heavy. That will help get rid of some of it. If you are still really worried, use a tampon AND a pad at the same time. It may help you to feel more at ease.
You really can't mess up using a tampon. The key is to NOT put it in too far. You want the tampon to be close to the vaginal opening, but not sticking out. Imagine it as a plug for a hole. If you push it in too far, blood will get around it and onto your clothes. If you push it in too far, just use the string to pull it closer to the opening. Make sure it is not sticking out either or it will still get on your clothes. Only have the string hanging out.
If you are bleeding heavy, you will need to change your tampon often. You can tell if your tampon needs changed by gently tugging on the string. If the tampon comes out easilly, then it is full of blood and needs changed. If it feels almost like it is stuck in there and you kind of have to pull harder to get it out, then it is still partially dry and most likely does not need to be changed. You will get the hang of that after a few periods.
I hope this helps!
