Default The Missed Period FAQ: Read before posting!

If you think you've missed your period because of pregnancy, please see ourAm I Pregnant FAQ.
Unfortunately, a missed period is another thing that nobody on this board can explain away. It's a situation that you will have to bring up with your doctor to get full closure on. However, there is some information that might put your mind to rest.
There are many reasons that your period might be late:
STRESS is the killer! We live in a very stressful world and any old stressful event might be enough to put the screws to your hormonal schedule. Being sick, having a deadline, a fight with your SO ... even stressing about not having your period can cause you to not have your period! So take a deep breath and don't worry.
WEIGHT, whether over or under normal, throws off your hormones and therefore your cycle. Women who are very active physically might stop having their periods altogether.
CHANGE in your routine or medicines can alter your cycle as well.
OVER-RELIANCE ON THE "AVERAGE" Not every woman has a cycle lasting 28 days! This is an "average," meaning not only do some women have cycles that are longer, but some also have cycles that are shorter. As long as it's pretty consistent, your doctor will tell you it's normal.

Some women report having strange symptoms with their late or missed period, especially if they're wondering if they're pregnant. This is a list of PMS symptoms, taken from Wikipedia, show a remarkable similarity to pregnancy symptoms (which don't start until after the first month, usually)
* Abdominal bloating
* Abdominal cramps
* Breast tenderness or swelling
* Stress or anxiety
* Trouble falling asleep (insomnia)
* Joint or muscle pain
* Headache
* Fatigue
* Acne
* Mood swings
* Worsening of existing skin disorders, and respiratory (eg, allergies, infection) or eye (bulbar disturbances, conjunctivitis) problems

I am sure this information will be able to help some of our members. Remember, nobody's advice on this board can replace or tries to imitate that of a health professional, but if it can calm someone until they find their way to a clinic, it's done some good.
