I really have very little knowledge about my body since my mother is very old fashioned and tends to steer clear of uncomfortable conversations and was taught abstinence-only sex ed. I have been getting to know my body, and have seen that I have some areas of dark or black looking skin on my genital area in patches. Is this normal or should I be worried? Please help... Don't know where else to go! Thanks!
Hi there
I'm assuming you're not of African descent and you are talking about 'white' skin darkening. I'm also assuming you are in your teens. Forgive me if I'm wrong in either assumption.
I'm fairly confidant that the 'discolouration' you're describing is completely normal. It's due to hormonal change and is part of puberty and the regular changes of the growing body. If you are in your twenties, or older, this can still occur due to hormonal changes, a birth-control pill, something like that.
If there is any pain, discomfort, itchiness, swelling or other symptoms then I'd advise taking it to your doctor and getting a real medical opinion. But if it all feels normal and is just a question of darker patches then you have nothing to worry about. No harm in keeping an eye on it, but nothing to worry about.
Now let us sport us while we may; / And now, like am'rous birds of prey,
Rather at once our time devour, / Than languish in his slow-chapp'd power.
Let us roll all our strength, and all / Our sweetness, up into one ball;
And tear our pleasures with rough strife / Thorough the iron gates of life.
Thus, though we cannot make our sun / Stand still, yet we will make him run.
