Question Dizziness with periods

Hi, I'm new here...

When I get my period I sometimes experience dizziness, like right now. It's not real bad - just annoying and tiresome. I'm curious if anyone else experiences this. My mom tells me it's normal due to, obviously, blood loss/menstruation. Is it just me? Is it normal?

I am 31 years old and not sexually active. I have occasional bouts of vertigo.

Thanx in advance.

Maybe you are getting low blood pressure. Are your periods heavy? Mine aren't heavy anymore, but when I was a teenager I had pretty heavy periods and I would feel quite lightheaded at times during the first couple of days - I even fainted and lost consciousness about 3 times. I think I developed iron-deficiency anemia because of this - every time I went to the doctor they said my iron was very low. Could be why I always felt generally quite fatigued as a teen.

No, my periods are only heavy for the first day. My period usually lasts 3 days then skips a day. When it comes back it's only very light spotting that lasts no longer than about hour if that.

Low blood pressure did enter my mind. But, since I don't bleed all that much or for that long... I'm not so sure.

Have you been tested for anemia? That can cause lightheadedness as well and periods can make that condition worsen. Let your doc know you get light headed during periods they will probably test your hematocrit and if you are anemic or borderline, they will get you on a very simple regimen to feeling better.
