Heavy Flow, No Go!
Like many here, I have and irregular cycle. I am 19 and started birth control a month prior in hopes to clear skin, use as a contraceptive, and regulate my menses. I realize that it takes several months for the body to stabilize hormone levels, but the duration and heaviness of my period leaves me concerned. I followed the directions on the package and started the Sunday after my period began and throughout the entire month, I cannot recollect a day I did not encounter spotting. As I have now reached the sugar pills, my period has become very heavy. I am experiencing cramping (which I have never had before) and large amounts of the uterine wall are passing (this is not new for me). The issue I have is I am worried that the amount of blood I have passed is not normal as well as the large "clots" that continue to pass (going on day three). I have scoured the internet for answers and possible diagnosis thinking there is something severely wrong with me. I did have a Pap smear, pelvic exam, and blood work testing thyroid and diabetes that all returned normal and normal hormone levels.
I suppose what I am asking, is that, should I be concerned that it is extremely heavy? Should I contact my doctor today or should I just wait a bit longer to see if the birth control helps with my issues? And one more question- is it typical to have a thick lining and is there anything I can do to reduce it, as it is extremely inconvenient and embarrassing.
Thank you for any help, feedback or suggestions!
