I have had a copper IUD in place for nearly 2 years now. A couple of weeks ago my 3 year old jumped on my back, sending me to my doctor who sent me to the ER the following day after severe back pain. After many x-rays (including of my abdomen without the apron) and a CT scan everything was determined fine internally and I was sent off with some 600 mg ibuprofen and some Flexeril. My back was doing much better but a couple of days ago it started hurting badly. Not a big deal, it usually does hurt before my period which I knew should be coming up, but this was a bit more than usual. Then I felt just overall ill and I had the worst headache and I rarely get headaches. Fortunately my son was gone for the afternoon and after a nap I felt a bit better.
Yesterday my period, or what appeared to be my period shows up, but from the start I knew something was up. Typically about two days before I always get a tiny bit of spotting as a warning. I had none. Also it started off brown, it doesn't do that. Several hours after it started I went to empty my Diva Cup and I noticed a gray clump and that in general my period was rather clotty (it usually only has a few small clots, I know IUDs can cause it to be clottier).
Also I did have a slight paranoia that I was pregnant, but I do get those every once in awhile, so it isn't too unusual but a part of me was a bit scared to get these tests even though my period had ended about a week or so prior to them and I have my IUD.
When I had my miscarriage, I bled for a week, then off for a week, then bled again, then off, ect. It went on for 5 weeks, meaning I had 3 "periods" in 5 weeks. It was super heavy, and painful. My lower back hurt tremendously, and the cramps were ridiculous. I had huge clots, as well. But, I also had pink stuff mixed with it. Which was actually tissue. Mine was a first trimester miscarriage. I actually didn't know I was pregnant until I miscarried.
Brown blood is just old blood, and usually not something to be too concerned with. It could just be left over from your last period. I get brown blood a few weeks after my period ends. My doctor said it's normal. As far as the gray clump, I don't know if you saved it, but if you did, take it to your doctor. If you think you had a miscarriage, your doctor can check you out and tell you. Just keep an eye on anything that comes out of your body during your cycle.
Thank you for your replies.
Getting to a doctor on a Saturday isn't that easy and I don't feel like I have cause to panic so I have awhile before I can call the office.
