Thread: Spotting or Light Period?

Hi ladies. I'm very new here and needed some advice. I am a first time user of the Depo (which i deeply regret) and I have been on it for about 2mths now. For the past 2wks, i've been spotting light brown discharge...if not, it's bright red. I thought it was just spotting that would last for a few days, but it hasn't stopped. It's not consistent though. It's not heavy to where I only wear a pantiliner.. I mean, one day it'll be here.....then the next nothing..I mostly notice it after i have sex. Could that also be the problem? I was told I wouldn't have periods on the shot, but I've also heard from others that you can still have periods, it just might be lighter or heavier. Then I did research on it and it said you don't really having this sort of discharge until you're due for the next one. So i'm now wondering if i'm just spotting or am I having an extremely light period, but not due until another 3-4wks. I don't plan on going for the next shot because I'm tired of having the same symptoms as pregnancy and worried to death that if I am, i could have another miscarriage because i didn't know and was careless. Any advice would be helpful.

First off, I recommend you do some research about Depo Provera and it's long term side effects. I suggest you stop taking it immediately use something else. The long term side effects can potentially be very dangerous and irriversable.

As for your issue, it can take several months for some women's hormones to balance out to either a regular cycle or to no period at all. For some women it is immediate. Everyone is different. For most women, their period stops completely, but not for all women. You either have to continue taking it (which I don't recommend) and wait for your cycles to balance out, or stop taking it all together and try a different method of birth control.
