never ending period take II

Ok soooo a few months ago I finished up a 95 day long period. Doc gave me med to stop that. I was off my period for 44 days, then ending up bleeding after sex (first time that happened). Stopped bleeding by the morning and was off for another 2 days. Starting 10 days ago now, I've been bleeding. some days its really light, some its brownish, some days its almost none existent. this is how the 95 day period started. the upside was I had no clots like before, well that is until today. when this happened last time, the doc couldn't find anything wrong. Blood work was good, pelvic was normal, did a coloposcopy that was normal. I have a follow up on 10/23 that was scheduled 2 months ago just to recheck on this issue but does anyone have any ideas of what else i can have her look for?

Lanabear trust me I know. I haven't had an ultrasound. I thought about asking for one last time but when the meds worked like she said they would I just figured Ok so we're good now. I mean I'm hoping my body is just trying to get back to normal but I just dont know. Maybe an ultrasound is the best thing at this point. UGH!!! Hey, I could have added this issue to things that make you go GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!

This happened to me once but it was because I had just gotten Norplant. Remember those? Did you start any new birth control? Otherwise yes, I would insist on the ultrasound. There are things like cysts and fibroids that won't show in bloodwork or a PAP.

I've dealt with this. Last year I started bleeding with sex, then it was pretty much constant bleeding. The doc put me on something (premaverin? maybe - don't remember). That was a disaster, it didn't really resolve the bleeding and turned me into a hyper emotional, weepy woman - not my usual state at all.

I went back in and told her, "this will not do". They did an ultra sound and I had no cysts, one or two tiny fibroids but was essentially clean, except that the endrometrium (uterine lining) had built up really thick and just wasn't clearing out with my period. The doctor said it was stress related. She did a D&C and an ablation with it. There was a few weeks of bleeding and discharge and it's been great! No more bleeding, actually no more periods although I can still "feel" my cycle but I was never much for PMS or any of that so no biggie.

Do get an ultra sound and see what's going on in there.

I am too having a never ending period. I am so happy to have found this fourm as I seriously thought I was the only person who had had this problem! I've had nearly 3 weeks of period. Have been to the drs and been giving some pills to reduce the bleeding which does help, but as soon as I stop taking them its back to bleeding. The dr said he thought it would stop eventually, as this has never happened to me before and my exam felt fine. I did think I was getting better, as I can go 24 hours with very light bleeding, but then its like the blood builds up and I have clots.

I am getting really sick of this now though and its getting me down. Not sure what I should do next.

Go to the library, find a copy of the Dec 2008 issue of More magazine, read the article about women's health care; outdated procedures, unneccesary meds and procedures and why it happens. Doctors get perks for prescribing certain meds. They don't often have time or an incentive to find time to keep up on new options on procedures and get trained in how to perform them. Insurance companies drive part this situation, often with the focus on their bottom line rather than your health.

You have to educate yourself, decide what you are willing to accept in your life and what outcome you want and then talk to them. I'm not a fan of drugs or surgery but I wasn't willing to live with constant bleeding, I wasn't willing to live with the effects of the drug or to be taking any for an extended time, I was also facing a situation where I would no longer have insurance. I simply went to my doctor and told her, we have to find another solution, I'll do what it takes within the limits of my finances; exercise, diet change, but I am unwilling to continue living with this. I had discussed this with my sisters - a couple of them had dealt with it but for different reasons, they had cycts or fibriods. I'd had some feed back on the D&C and ablation talking with them and with some other women. That was the option the doctor and I agreed would be best in my case.

You have to do your research, talk with your care provider and you may want to get a second opinion. I'm sure there are many fine male OB/GYNs but their plumbing and yours is different and no matter how empathetic they are, they will never experience anything remotely like a menstrual period, cramps, bleeding, pregnancy, childbirth or menopause (although men do have cycles). It's just different dealing with a woman who can say, "I had that, it's the pits". Males can't really understand what being a woman, living in a woman's body is like anymore that women can understand what it is like to have a penis or deal with ED.

Bodies can be tricky business, what resolves a problem for one may make it worse for another. You have to live with it so you need to keep after your care provider to work with you to find a solution that works for you.

Well WC I completely agree with you about male gyno vs female, thats why I searched to no end to find a women gyno. She seems good about not wanting to just do needless procedures but does do them as needed. Since this hadn't happened before she though things had just built up because of the stress I went through last yr. Now heres round 2, again with no end in site and its just not gonna last another 95 days. My issue now, with just being laid off on Friday, my insurance will expire on October 31. My appointment was set for Oct 23, I called and got that bumped up to Oct 7 but I'm just really hoping we can get this figured out before I lose insurance

What happened before all this occurred? I bled like that when I had depo. I almost had to have a blood transfusion because I lost so much blood.

I am so happy to have found this fourm as I seriously thought I was the only person who had had this problem! I've had nearly 3 weeks of period.
