I am 41(almost 42). I have had regular periods all of my life. The only time I have ever been late, is when I have had my three kids.
I was taking Effexor XR(antidepressent) for 3 years. In July, I got off of that, and changed to Wellbutrin. In August and September, I was spotting prior to my periods. Which has never happened. I did get my periods on time, and they were normal. Went to the GYN on 09/21 and exam and pap were normal. He "thinks" it is from med change. He does not believe it is peri-menopause. I got my LMP on 09/14. It is now 10/18. And I am late for my period. I went back to GYN on Thursday. He did another exam, normal. Got HCG blood test done for preg. and that was negative as well. He sent me for U/S(really just to make me feel better he said) and all was normal as well. I did ask U/S tech if my endometrium lining was thickened, and she said "yes, it looks like you are going to have a period." So now it has been 3 days since that U/S and still no period. Dr. just said to call at the end of the week if I don't get my period for another blood test. If negative again, he has to assume it is the med switch. So my questions are these then: If my endo was thick and tech said it looked like I was going to get my period, why hasn't it come yet? And, how long can that lining sit in my uterus before shedding? Isn't the longer it sits, the worst it will be? Will they do something, or should they do something to get it "moving"?? And if so what do they do? Is it dangerous to go a long time with no period and your endo lining is thick, and should be shedding? and, FWIW, I am coming off of Wellbutrin. I have done research on it, and the side effects of Wellbutrin lists "Menstrual Irregularities", but it soes not list specifics, and is listed as rare. Again, my periods have ALWAYS been on time, so this is what makes me so concerned. What do I need to do next? Do I call Dr and insist on blood tests? Give me something to get it going?? Lost and not sure what to do because this is all new for me. ![]() Thank you for any help. |

Unless you are on blood thinners, make yourself a nice cup of ginger tea. Just pour boiling water over and steep a couple slices of ginger root for 10 mins and enjoy. If your period is anywhere near starting that should do it - maybe before you even finish your tea.

Could you tell me where to purchase Ginger Root? I do not have a health food store near me. Only Wal-Marts and regular grocery stores. Or can you buy just Ginger tea in tea bags?
Thanks! |

you should be able to find either a ginger tea or regular ginger root at any grocery store or wally world, The root will be in the fresh veggies section. It is brown, is usually 3-5 inches long and may have off-shoots.

So what if it doesn't come? Does this mean I didn't ovulate? I cannot take BC pills to regulate it because I am 41, I smoke and have borderline Hypertension. I have no plans on having any more kids.
I just cannot figure this out. Dr. says I am to young to be in perimenopause. But he didn't do bloodwork so how would he know this? He thinks it is medication switch. I hope that is all it is. I am weaning off that Wellbutrin slowly. So it may be a month or so before I can tell what is going on. |

Give it time then. This would be a good time to focus on healthy diet, getting some exersize and then see what happens.
