I am 49 years old and I have been having 2 periods a month for 10 years. My regular period now only lasts 2 days and then 7 to 12 days later I start bleeding again. over the years the bleeeding after my regular period has become a little heavier (but my regular period is usually ver light). the bleeding is dark brown and mucousy sometimes and this last time it looked like there were clots too. in between the regular period and second period there is never any bleeding or spotting at all. Has this happened to anyone else? All my pap smears and ultrasound have been normal.

Your hormones are what causes these consistent abnormalities in your cycle so it wouldn't be detected with a pap or ultrasound. I suggest getting your hormone levels tested to make sure they are normal. If they are normal, then you might want to consider birth control to regulate your cycles if it's bothering you too much. You could also be approaching menopause and that can make your cycles start to act wierd.
