i'm an 18 year-old virgin and since starting my period, it has been incredibly irregular. sometimes it's 6 months apart, sometimes it's 2 months apart. i asked a doctor once out of curiosity, and she said it's normal to have irregular periods, but not without any pattern and that i would have to get a pelvic exam... well being about 16 at the time i was too terrified to do that so i pretty much just said thanks and left. now i'm 18 and for some reason, instead of the really long times between period, i now all of the sudden have been getting my period every 2 or 3 weeks... so my mom insists that i should go to my first gyno. app. neway since im 18, so she's making me an appointment. any advice???

i waited till i was 18 and i was so scared. but the best thing to do is to relax and remind yourself thats for your health. it's like drinking cranberry juice not everyone likes it but you drink it cause you know its good for you. I also didnt like the idea of a man doctor looking at me so i got a female, plus I thinks it easier to talk to a woman about woman problems. hence coming here. lol! I always had really irregular periods, my mom tried to get me on birth control to regulate them but my dad was dead set against it. ( he thought i would become a little or something)
but i finaly got it when i was 18 and i have been regular since. if your worried about pills i suggest the nuva ring. you place it inside for 3 weeks take it out for a week and then start all over again. in that off week thats when you get your period. its so easy. i only messed it up once because i forgot to write down the date to put in and take out. i missed it by a week and i just got really moody but other that nothing big happend. there are some other side affects but you will have to talk to your doctor about that. good luck and relax.
