Thread: Can you stop taking loestrin 24 FE on your own?

My 14 year old has been on loestrin 24 for a year now for dysfuntional bleeding. She put on 10 pounds almost immed. She has constant headaches and stomach aches. Question is: Do you think bleeding will come back? Will she take off the water weight she put on? Is it safe to stop taking pills with out letting Dr. know?

Most likely isn't water weight. Can u imagine gaining 10 lbs of water? Birth control, even low dose increases the estrogen in a womans body. For a 14 year old, this increase in estrogen (and other hormones) has caused her body to store fat probably more so in the areas one would store fat if pregnant.

If she stops taking the pill, she will have side effects, and will most likely go back to the problems she had before starting the pill. However, the BEST person to talk to about that is her doctor. He/She can better prepare you for what your daughter will go through after getting off the pill.
