Default Period pain worse every two months

My wife's period is like clockwork but every second month it causes her a great deal more pain than those months in between. She is 29 years old and is not taking any birth control pills or other types of hormone. Does anyone have any information about what might be causing this pattern? Has anyone else experienced this?

As a possibly-related aside, she has an under-active thyroid.

Many thanks in advance for any thoughts or suggestions! The poor woman really suffers every other month.

Has she considered a form of birth control to regulate her periods?

We did try one type of BC pill for a while but the particular one we tried gave her depression. Unfortunately I have forgotten which it was now, though we could contact our doctor and find out -- we lived in a different country then.

Yes i think you should speak to a doctor about different options. Different levels of estrogen may be able to help her periods and eliminate the depression part but only a doctor can tell you exactly

Thanks for your suggestion. We'll discuss this option, though we're thinking of trying to become pregnant in about a year from now so will see what the doctor says about taking the pill for such a short stretch beforehand.

I'm still wondering why this rhythm should be so regular and alternating. If I remember correctly from high school, ovulation alternates between ovaries. Could this mean that one ovary is somehow different to the other in some way?

There could be many reasons, im no doctor so i cant be 100% sure but womens bodies can be extremely complicated so it could just be how her body is or an underlining factor.

If you wish to have a baby together see a doctor for your best options! There are many

    Good luck

    Thanks again, x.st.angel.x.

Does anyone else have any experience with a situation like this? We will definitely consult with doctors, but want to get information from as many sources as possible.

I get this all the time, the second month I can barely move never mind work, eat or sleep! And I also have an under active thyroid. I haven't found out what it is yet but I believe i have some type of dysmenorrhoea. I got prescibed 500mg mefenamic acid tablets which seem to work at the moment. Hope this helps!!

    Default Same problem

I'm the same age, have the same problem, but no underactive thyroid. Have had it since I was 14. B control solved it, but also made me moody, bloated and y. I went off because we'll also be trying in a year. Gynys have always said it's nothing to worry about, but it's so freaking painful. They deny ovary involvement. No answer yet. Sometimes I throw up because it is so painful, and I have passed out before.
