Hello Everyone. I am new here and would like some feedback on my current situation

My LMP started May 1, 2010. It was perfectly awful and normal as always. I do not take birth control, am sexually active and monogamous, and my cycles are fairly predictable but environmental factors (stress, diet, exercise) will affect it. At 28 years old I am quite in tune with my body and have only ever had 2 yeast infections following the use of antibiotics. My partner and I were both tested for STDs before becoming sexually active, and he gave me his test results to show he was clean as well prior to any sexual contact.

Things became a little heated and my partner and I got carried away May 7, 2010 and didn't use protection until about halfway through when we realized we'd forgotten. We have not been engaging in sexual relations often due to scheduling reasons and that will sometimes throw my cycle off.

May 12, 2010 I started to experience a minor consistent headache, premenstrual cramps, and pink spotting. I went to the doctor because I suspected that perhaps I lost a tampon up there or even an infection. Anytime I've ever had more than one menstrual period in one cycle, its always been quite similar to my normal menstrual period....heavy flow, painful, the works! This time is much different. I have also been rather emotional. I have been known to become irritable during menstruation but I seem to be quite sensitive and sentimental ie: love songs make me tear up. I don't cry or get sad or anything but romantic things normally don't get to me.

I went to the doctor to get checked out; there is no infection or foreign object... He had me go for tests for STDs, but it physically isn't possible for my man to have cheated and I know I'm clean (I know, you may believe me to be naive to think my man is above cheating. Its just that his schedule hasn't allowed for extracurricular fraternization and he hasn't had an opportunity). When the doctor examined me, he discovered some darker blood and stated it wasn't my period. He said that there was no foul scent and that since results for infection are negative, the next phase in his investigation is to check for STDs.

The cramps I am experiencing are the mildest PMS I've ever had and I've only had to use 3-4 tampons per day (I usually go through many more than that). A friend of mine has suggested implantation bleeding, but since my examination, there has been darker red which is inconsistent with anything I've read on the subject. There is no clotting or anything and I'm wondering what is going on. Has anyone else had this happen? Is this a hormonal change at my age?
