If it was me... I would start from the 9th if you consistently spotted.
I started bleeding a little bit red and heavy on May 9th and that lasted for 2 days and then all the way up until today, I have continually spotted brown. But now today I have begun having a heavier "period" that is red blood. I use a calendar to keep track of when my periods come but this month, I am way too confused on how to figure out when June's period is going to be. So, my question is, with this cycle, should I start counting from May 9th or from today to figure out when my period in June is going to be?

I was thinking that would be the most accurate. So, it doesn't really go by whether the blood is brown or red? My mother was telling me that I should go by red blood but I wasn't too sure of this myself.
I think it depends on what you feel about your body.
If I have brown blood around my period, I always count that as a period day. If I spot with brown blood (and sometimes I do around ovulation), I just chalk it up to random mid cycle spotting.
