Is stopping your period safe?
I've been having a lot of problems lately with pelvic pain and my menstrual cycle. I've had a number of cysts form and burst even while on birth control(NuvaRing) so my doctor suggested that I just keep the ring in all month and stop my menstrual cycle to see if my problems get better. Now she says that there's no problem with stopping it and that it's medically safe. While I would love not to get it anymore I'm just curious as to if there are any side effects during the time I suppress my period and after, whenever I choose to start my period again. I've heard that once you go off the birth control and start your period again that it can last weeks. Is that true? Has anyone done this before? Is it safe?
I took the pill continuously for 3 months at a time, only have 4 periods a year, for about 4 years. I didn't notice anything different than being on BC the regular way. When I went off, my period went right back to normal as before. But everyone is different.
it usually goes back to normal pretty soon, i've never heard of anyone bleeding for weeks.
its safe to stop them if they are affecting your life.
give it a try and see how you go, you can always take the ring out if its not suiting you.
the only problem that i can see is if you accidently get pregnant (since no contraception is 100% safe) and you dont realise.
