I have been using Nuvaring for four months without any problems. I decided to skip my period on the fourth month because I am backpacking through europe and didn't want to hassle with it. When the time came for me to get my period, I simply put in a new ring (as my doctor told me to). However, I began to spot and continued to bleed lightly for the entire 3 week duration of the ring! I took it out on time and had a light, but normal period. The bleeding stopped yesterday, the 5th day of my period, and so I put a new ring in. Today it seems as though I've started my period again! WHAT is going on?! and how in the world do I make it stop?? I have gone through countless boxes of tampons and the inconvenience is more than aggravating. HELP please!
It may just not be the right type of birth control for you. Nonstop bleeding usually happens when the hormones in the birth control are not quite strong enough for you. The lining of the uterus builds but remains weak and starts bleeding in response to anything. Different people respond to different forms of synthetic hormones so it can happen with one kind of birth control and not another. For example I can't use ortha tricyclen or librel but I do great with yasmin and nuva rings. It's possible it was just barely working and then when you skipped the week off your body didn't accept it and caused breakthrough bleeding which is common when skipping your period. Since it worked before it might work again if you are willing to wait. Otherwise I would suggest you try a different form of birth control with a different type of hormone.
