Unhappy period for 2 months or longer

for some reason, i have been on my period since April 24th.

i am thinking it's a hormonal imbalance, since those run in my family, but my mum wants me to have a pelvic exam.

i am not ready for one of those psychologically, and i don't know what to do!

my bleeding fluctuates, but for the most part it is moderate.

i will come right out and say i have a weight issue, and sometimes i will randomly lose 5 lbs or so, and then gain it back in a short period of time. i also have many other hypothroid symptoms. i am also stressed out much of the time and anxiety/panic attack and melt-down prone.

should i listen to my mum or have her take me to get a thyroid exam?

i am a bit concerned, and have decided to purchase a menstrual cup on account of i feel like i am filling up entire landfills on my own after using so many pads, hahahahah.

but in all seriousness, what else could it be besides my thyroid?

I'm not sure but a visit to the OB-GYN is in order! And it's nothing to be afraid of, in the long run it'll save you a lot of problems. Tell them what you've said here, and you should be on your way to normalizing that period of yours. I can't imagine how inconvenient it must be for you like this! My guess is they'll put you on birth control, though don't forget to mention your anxiety/panic attacks.

    i suppose so.

i am trying to be more comfortable with my body. i'm only 17, but i am very shy!

when i was little, my mum showed me a book called "a child is born" and that scarred me against any reproduction/female oriented..umm, things...i guess. i'm not blaming her, but i'm blaming that book! it scared me sooooo bad. although, i did like to see the translucent fetuses with their developing nervous systems.

THAT is why i have so much discomfort when thinking about the OBGYN.

thinking about someone poking around in there (or looking DIRECTLY at it) gives me an anxiety attack and i start to cry and hyperventilate, but i really don't want to be sick. and i'm not trying to knock their career choice, but, eurghhhhh.

it IS , however, something i need to get past in the long run, i do know that.

Yikes... you're making me curious about that book now!

Have you "poked around" down there yourself at all? That might help - get a mirror and just (gently) explore with your fingers what everything looks like. Maybe it's fear of the unknown that's getting to you too...

Yes you do need to get past this, starting today, chop chop, get to it missy.

you may enjoy it. one of my sisters loves that book to death, but shes' heavy into the whole motherhood thing.

oh no, don't get me wrong, i'm not afraid of my own area, its' just the thought of someone else looking at it and examining it like that. i think if i felt better about my body in general, the gynecologist wouldn't be a big deal at all. but in perfect honesty, it really isn't the prettiest thing to look at, hahahahahh.

i am VERY pressured to lose weight by a lot of the people around me :/
all the pressure makes me feel ashamed of my body, so i hide it as much as i can. being exposed physically, makes me feel exposed psychologically. i wore a black hoodie every day in public since the sixth grade- even at home and even in the sweltering summer!

BUT, i am trying to lose weight, because i don't want to have a weight problem anymore...and i feel that i will be able to handle any issues i have with a lot more ease.

my mum told me not to think about the doctor and what he/she might think, because they have seen soooo many different women and girls and have seen all shapes and sizes. i think i feel better with the thought that the doctors are there to help you (well, most of them anyways...), and they probably know its' an uncomfortable position for someone to be in.

i started to get rid of anxiety recently simply by talking to my mum a bit more, and i feel much better, but its' still a little scary.

the period thing sounds awful! i have had mine for three and a half weeks now, and i have to ave swabs and so forth. Nothing to it, gotta make sure you know, so please do it.

I am the opposite, i have no inhibitions in the docs anymore, in fact my doc wanted to listen to my lungs the other day, and he looked shocked when i took off my t shirt and got down to my bra, he told me to put them back on, as he didnt need me to do that. Theres something wrong with me lol.
Take it easy! One step at a time x

    Samantha haaaaahahaha

Strangelove, your mom's right, those docs have seen it ALL. Besides their duty is to help, not judge. Just imagine the wide range of people and problems that they have seen walk through their door. Honey you'll be an EASY patient compared to others they've had!

The weight thing I can understand, but hey, we all look the same on the INSIDE, which is where they are going to focus anyway.

well, at least i'm not experiencing any physical pain or discomfort during my period, except for the rare cramps. hahah, gotta be thankful for that!

Samantha, i'd love to be so bold! but, i'm shy and always have been, hahahahah. change is hard, really hard! but, i do need to be mature enough to take care of myself :3

i sure hope i'll be an easy patient! i couldn't imagine being a doctor, my empathy is too strong, i'd crack with so much emotional overload!

to be honest, and i KNOW this will sound really bad...but i haven't seen a doctor of any kind (save eye doctor- my visions is pretty lame) for...drumroll...ALMOST 12 YEARS!

    AHHHHHH!

it is, though, because my family struggles with money and we could never afford appointments after i was 5, which is odd because we were dirt poor when i was a small child, and now we're doing better 0_0. only recently have both my parents gotten health insurance. my dad needed it because he suffers from bipolar disorder and schizophrenia, and my mother has lupis and primary billary cirrhosis- an autoimmune liver disease. so i will have to say that they need health insurance more than i do, but they are trying really hard to get me health insurance. so at least they're trying. i'd help them out by getting a job...but there aren't any jobs available to me! this is all so frustrating!

and just because i'm a smartass, i'm going to say that we don't all look the same on the inside...some people are born with their guts on the opposite side of their body!
    ^_^ hahahahah...i had to XD
