So basically, my periods been a bit weird for about 18 months or so now.
It's always been a bit irregular, sometimes coming after 3 weeks, sometimes 4 and sometimes 5, usually lasting about 5-8 days.
But I could generally anticipate when it was going to come. Then, round about new year 2009, I missed a period and thought "oh, no big deal, I'm sure there's a perfectly good reason"... then I missed another, and another..
I basically didn't have another period till the beginning of May 2009, which was unusually light and only lasted 2 days. Then about 2 weeks later I got a really heavy, awful period which lasted going on three weeks - I had really awful cramps, which I don't usually have badly, if at all. I thought it was just my body catching up, so I was ok with it. Then it went about another 3 months - no period. Then I got discharge with some blood in it - like a really, really light period, for about two weeks, then a heavier than normal, but not unbearable period for another 9 days. I missed a few more again - got my fourth period of the year around christmas time, which was normal, so I finally thought things were getting back to normal... Nope. Didn't have another period until April, which was another extremely light one - so light I couldn't wear tampons, for 2 days, then nothing till now, which was another discharge for 2 weeks then a heavy period. I'm really confused here, have I just got a really irregular pattern? Is something up?
I've heard it can be a symptom of hypothyroidism, but I was tested for that due to other symptoms.. no, I haven't got it.
By the way, I'm 16, a virgin, and I've had my period since I was 9/10, so I'm pretty sure it should have settled into a cycle by now.
Any ideas what could be causing this? I'm not stressed at all.
I really don't want to go to a doctor - they're all men, and I feel so embarrassed, especially with my mum there. lolThank you

As much as you don't want to hear this, your best bet is probably to go in and have an exam done by your Dr. There is no reason to be embarrassed, even with a male Dr., they have seen and heard it all. It's all part of being a woman. If you don't want your mom in the room with you, tell her and the Dr. There should be no reason why she cannot wait outside, at least during the exam part of it.
