Hi all,
I'm new here, and after multiple visits to the doctor, I'm posting here to see if anyone knows any more about these symptoms I've been having for the past few months. I have been having a lot of vaginal dryness and discomfort - it feels like chafing, but since I wear cotton underwear all the time, I'm not sure what could be responsible for that (other than that cheap 1-ply toilet paper at my office that feels like sandpaper. Ugh.). I've also experienced a bit of pain with intercourse - I am in a long-distance relationship, so unfortunately I don't get lucky very often. There has also been spotting between periods, which has never happened to me.
At first, I thought it was a yeast infection, so I treated it with Monistat. That didn't seem to help much. I went to my GP, and he prescribed one dose of Diflucan, and symptoms came back after a few days. I went to a gynecologist about a month ago, and everything looked normal - no yeast, no bacteria, no inflammation. I was tested for STDs (everything), and all of those came back negative (boyfriend is also fine). The pap smear also came back normal. I was also tested for a UTI because I tend to urniate frequently, and that came back normal as well. I just chalked that up to drinking a ton of water every day. Neverthless, the gynecologist gave me an extra two doses of Diflucan just to make sure the yeast symptoms were completely cleared up and sent me on my way.
My period is normally so regular that I can usually pin it down to the day - it seems to occur on the 26th of each month (give or take 2 days). It still does, but I seem to have spotting around the time I'm ovulating. This only worries me because it's never happened before. I noticed some spotting last night, and today it's starting to feel like I'm going to start a full period even though my last one ended a couple of weeks ago. I know this happens from time to time, it maybe has happened once or twice in the last five years for me, so it could be just another one of those "things." But the spotting is unusual for me too.
I'm not sure if any of these things are related at all, or if it's really anything to worry about. I'm quite tired of seeing the doctor - I've not yet found one that really listens to me, lets me get a word in edgewise to describe all my symptoms, or will spend more than fifteen minutes with me. I understand that they're very busy, but I always feel as though I'm being "shooed" out of the door before I can ask the questions I have. Perhaps since they've found nothing out of the ordinary, it's nothing to worry about, but it can be quite frustrating to experience these symptoms without much relief.
Just a little more information, if you need it: I am not on birth control (hormonal types make me horribly sick), and I'm healthy. My weight is normal: I'm 5'4 and 118 pounds. 27 years old. No family history of gynecological problems, but I do seem to be very sensitive to yeast infections.
Does anyone have any insight on this? I appreciate it. Thanks.
