Default No Periods For 8 months?

I'm 15 and I got my first period when I was 11 and I have never had an issue with it, until I turned 15. I have not had any periods or any menstrual cramps since January, it's now late September. I know for an absolute fact that I am not pregnant, I am a virgin ;]. I've already been to the doctors and I asked them about something called PCOS (Polycystic ovary disease) and she doubts it could be that, she also did a pelvic exam and said everything looked normal. This was all a week and a half ago, and i'm completely clueless now. Why am I not having periods, what can I do to figure this out?

    Hi Sweetpea1695,

If you are still concerned after your pelvic exam, you can always go for a second opinion. What you are going through could be very normal.

Sometimes there are everyday factors that can affect the regularity of our menstrual cycle. Things like stress, losing some weight, not eating properly, not sleeping/resting enough....or a combination of things. Take care of yourself and try not to worry so much.

In the meantime, talk to an adult you trust about your situation and get another doctor to examine you. It is highly unlikely that anything is seriously wrong with you so your anxiety about it should be low. Hang in there and take it one day at a time.

Hi. My bestfriend actually has PCOS, and she's had the same problem. She didn't get her first period until she was 13, then didn't have another one until she was 15. She's 19 now and she's on a low-dose birth control, just to regulate her periods a little bit. Maybe you should ask about that? PCOS is really nothing to be scared of as long as you keep up with it and treat it the right way. It's not uncommon to have especially if it runs in your family. Which in her's, it does. Wish the best of luck to you!

    Thanks for responding!

To lilajones my family doesn't have a history of PCOS, but it does sound a lot like why i'm going through, I think i might just ask my mom and doctor about trying a low-dose birth control to see if anything happens.

To tesoro for what you've listed, nothing like that has changed, nothing at all has really changed except the lack of periods. But i'll see if I can get a second opinion and go from there.

    Thanks again!
